Actually Joe, Slin's statement is not entirely wrong- Germany is THE place people from less prosperous countries go to when they want to make "easy" money.

I didn't say that his comments were untrue. I just said it was hypocritical for him to talk about the Poles stealing from the Germans.

Joe, you can't understand that if you aren't german or polish.

(First of all my grandmother is from what is now Poland. Remember after WW2 the Russians were driving out the germans out of east Prussia which was german and took it for themselves and it is now part of Poland.)

Anyway you could probably say that Poland to Germany is what Mexico is to the US.

There is a lot of criminality going on. Smuggling , Stealing cars in germany, bring them over the border and later sell them in germany again.
Which is what my joke was all about.

Some of my best friends are polish and even they are making fun of the prejudice that they are seen as thiefs.

Blondes, Turks, Poles are the butt of a lot of jokes here.

Gesides germany has a bigger foreign population than any other country in europe.
They are saying that next to Istanbul, Berlin is the biggest turkish city in the world.

Nobody here is talking about WW2 anymore. Americans gotta be the most sensitive on this. At some point it's over.

And calling it hypocrticial is pretty funny because first of all I never said it was right what Hitler did (Hitler, not the german folk) , second of all does that not make it any better and was meant as a joke anyway (hence the smiley) and third of all was that 3 generations before me.

I saw a documentation about germany on discovery channel, World Traveller or something.
That tells me that americans have a totally wrong view of germany unless they were here.
My friend had an exchange student here who had german ancestors.
He thought we would eat Sauerkraut and wear traditional leather trousers.

Hey Slin, can you please tell me what "Furst" means in German. It's my last name, and I know that it's German, but I'm not too sure what the meaning or history of it is. Any information would be great, thanks-

Furst isn't a word in german but I assume it was spelled "Fürst" although Fuerst would make more sense if that was the case.

Anyway "Fürst" means "Prince" at least according to the translator but I thought it could mean "Lord" also. At least it is a title of nobility.

Either that or it means nothing. ;)

Joe,

where abouts in Gilbert do you live? We are at Elliott / Lindsay area.

And yes a Joe's stuffed baker sounds great.

Also, there's a new sandwich shop that opened next to the Little Gym (Just north of Lowes on Gilbert) - Stonegrounds - they have EXCELLENT sandwiches!

first, as a jew, i don't believe ANYONE should EVER get over what happened. it remains one of the most heinous crimes against humanity ever.

and limiting the hideousness of the act to hitler is nigh criminal in itself. do i blame you, or hold you personally accountable, slinslin? no. am i biased against any and all germans? no. but it was a far greater conspiracy that carried out the atrocities than just hitler. your people will forever be linked to it (rightly or wrongly) just as all white americans will forever be linked with the blight that was slavery.

i tend to have very thick skin. but the holocaust is something that i just can't stand to be trivialized.

Slin, thanks for explaining that.

jkf296, I live just south and east of Gilbert and Guadalupe. I actually lived in a house just south of Guadalupe off of Lindsey growing up. How long have you been in Gilbert? I haven't tried that sandwich shop. Have you ever tried Flancer's?
