History: Scott Lang was an electronics expert who could not support his family doing repair work so he turned his talent to burglary. Apprehended, he served his prison sentence and was paroled in three years for good behavior. Lang had furthered his studies of electronics while in prison and was soon hired by Stark International to work in its design department. When his daughter was diagnosed as having a serious congenital heart condition, Lang sought the aid of surgeon Dr. Erica Sondheim, whom he believed to have been held prisoner at Cross Technological Enterprises. Desperate to help his daughter, Lang decided to resort to burglary. Breaking into the New Jersey home of Dr. Henry Pym, Lang stole his Ant-Man uniform and a shrinking gas canisters. Unknown to him, Pym observed the theft and in his current disguised as a Yellowjacket, followed Lang, curious to see what use he would do with the paraphernalia. Garbed as Ant-Man, Lang broke into cross and discovered Dr. Sondheim was indeed being held prisoner by Darren Cross, president of Cross Technological Enterprises, who needed her expertise to correct his own heart condition. Rescuing her and defeating Cross, Lang was relieved when Sondheim was able to save the life of his daughter. Lange intended to return the Ant-Man costume to its owner and turned himself in, but Henry Pym, aware the use which Lang put the stolen goods, offered to let him keep them, provided he put them to lawful use. Interacting with the electrical impulses of the brain, the particles create an organism-wide "producing field," which is energized by mental command. Thus activated, the field produces an man's entire body at a uniform rate to the size he is determined which is usually an size, although he can adopt sizes between his normal and that of an ant if he so desires Ant-Man's mass is not compressed into reduced stature. Instead it is somehow extended into an extra physical dimension that is opened by the activity of the Tim particles, from which the mass can later be reclaimed. It takes about two seconds from the time the pin particles reach the brain for Ant-Man to reduce to ant-size.

" The quantity of particles, however, does not determine how small an organism can shrink. (that is determined by the mental command of the user. ) it is also not known what effect, if any, the exposure to and over abundance of PymParticles and a single time will have. It is known, however, that continuous exposure to the Tim particles over prolonged periods of time enables certain brains (such as Henry Pym's) to generate " producing fields " spontaneously, without contact with the new quantity of particles. (Scott Lange has not been exposed to the particles long enough to determine if he will be similarly affected. ) with a disability to spontaneously to generate " producing fields " is permanent or if it fades in time is unknown. Also unknown is the time, if any, of the and potency of the particles. So far Ant-Man has been able to remain an size as long as he has wished, a matter of hours. If Ant-Man is rendered unconscious while in his reduced state, he remains and is not spontaneously revert to normal size.

Like the particles that produce the "reducing field," the particles also penetrate the skin, touched the nerve endings, and are transmitted by the nervous system to the brain. Also interacting with the electrical impulses of the brain, and particles create an organism wide "enlarging field," which is energized by mental command. Ant-Man's body grows at a uniform rate, until he has reclaimed all the mass that was extended extra dimensionally. At that point, since there is no more of his mass with in the extra physical dimension, the "enlarging field" is no longer energized, and the enlargement process stops. (The particles of the "enlarging gas" can be used by certain individuals to grow larger than their normal stature.) In this case, extra pseudo organic mass is acquired from the same extra physical dimension where access organic mass is extended into reducing process, and the "reducing gas " is used to regain normal stature. Certainly there are visual indicators in his surrounding environment, but the process occurs so quickly that it would be remarkable to be able to see the scale indicators. Presumably, knowing the precise rate at which the shrinking process occurs, he could time the process so that he deactivates the "reducing field" when he reaches the desired stature. Again, this would involve split-second timing. However he manages to do it, Ant-Man has been able to calibrate his shrinking process so that he attains within 1/32 of an inch of his usual half-inch size. (He could use successive dosages of the "shrinking gas" or "enlarging gas" to make fine adjustments of his height.)

Both Henry Pym and Scott Lang have used multiple dosages of the "shrinking gas" to shrink to submicroscopic stature. (The success of dosages enabled them to mentally adjust to the experience with a short "rest stops"; a single dosage would theoretically be enough to make the "journey" nonstop.) When 99.99+ per cent of an organism's mass is extraordinarily shunted, the organism is automatically sent into a "subatomic universe," on the countless alternate universe accessible to Earth only by the mass shunting process. Touching the object or organism he wishes to shrink, he generates the "reducing field" and that usual manner, and then mentally extends the field to encompass his "baggage" or "passenger." How far he can extend this field is unknown. So far all he has "carried" with him has been one other person or ant. Ant-Man's uniform and paraphernalia shrink with him by this process. The nozzle releases a measured quantity of " gas " no matter how long or hard the button is depressed.

Took my daughter to see this one today....she wanted the opening day poster,lol....I had low expectations as I have never been a fan of the ant man.
I am now. Funny as all hell, high energy action. This movie is a roller coaster ride as long as you can look past a few flaws.
Looking forward to buying this one on dvd and watching it again.

P.S.
seen this in Real D 3D...and this one was worth the extra price...

Not the best Marvel movie, but certainly on par with the 2nd tier Marvel films like Iron Man 3 and Captain America. Was more like Iron Man with the humor and a lot of callbacks to previous movies.

FYI, there are 2 end credit scenes--one mid-end-credits, and one at the very end. The one at the very end is worth the wait.

All I have heard is this movie was awesome. I am a Paul Rudd fan (dating back to Clueless!) and can't really think of a better actor for this part. Gonna try and go see it this week for sure

Saw this one again with the family and I love this movie even more. This is how a Comic Book movie should be. Marvel understands that Comic book movies should be fun. Who would have thought that a movie about Ant-Man would be this good.

For me, other than Ironman and the Avengers this is my favorite Marvel movie. Paul Rudd and Michael Pena were drop dead hilarious in this movie. I haven't had this much fun at a movie in a long time.

Wow, that is a bold statement! While I can't agree with your placement, (Cap 3 and Guardians are clearly above it for me), I can't argue with how good it was.

Went to go see this with the family. Paul Rudd was the perfect choice and Michael Pena's Luis stole just about every scene he was in. He was damn funny. This was a really fun and funny movie. The family loved it.

Although, this is a different kind of Marvel movie. It's hard to compare to the others. It's weird because in many ways it felt "forced" to fit in the Marvel Universe because the tone was completely different. It's not their best Marvel movie (have to accept some camp) but it was still a pretty dang good movie.

I for one am glad they chose to keep this at an arm's length with the rest of the "verse". Tie it in loosely but let this live on it's own. It would have completely changed the tone of the Avengers or they wouldn't have been able to be as "comedic" as you needed for this movie to succeed. The tone had to be the way it was to let Paul Rudd and Michael Pena succeed. Those two were major factors on why the movie worked.

Marvel is simply on a role.

You could say nearly the same about Guardians.

Yeah I know others liked Guardians and Cap 2 a lot. However for me I felt Guardians had one major flaw. I just felt that of all the Marvel movies that I've seen, Guardians had probably the weakest villian of all time. I personally had a hard time getting past that fact. Still a super fun comic book movie and one of my favorites.

I didn't get to see Captian America 2 in the theater. I only recently got to watch it at home and maybe that took away some of the wow factor from it. I just wasn't entertained as much as I was for Ant-Man.

Again really splitting hairs here. They are all great comic book movies. Ant-Man was just so much fun it reminded me of how I felt when I saw Ironman and Avengers for the first time.

For me a comic book movie must above all be fun and not take itself too seriously. That is just a personal preference and is not always set in stone. If done correctly a comic book movie can be serious ("The Dark Knight"). However IMO it is a very difficult thing to pull off and I tend to prefer the fun comic book movies over the more serious ones.

Cap 3 would be the upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War (2016).

Cap 2 was Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).

You absolutely could. IMO, that movie was more sci-fi versus hero genre. Completely different tone and different kind of movie. That's why I had equally hard time comparing Guardians to the other Marvel movies.

They basically have their straight hero genre, sci-fi genre, "light" genre and possibly soon to be "supernatural" for Doctor Strange.

Marvel is trying to conquer the "genre" universe. LOL.

I thought the first 45 minutes were a little slow, but everything after was great. The "small-ness" of the film, from fight scenes to scope was a welcome change up from a million faceless bad guys taking on the Avengers and for once, the 3D was completely worth it.

Give me some reasons why I should see this

1. Everyone that I have talked to says it is good.
2. I don't even know who Antman is.

You don't need to know who Ant-Man is to enjoy this movie.
It explains it all pretty well. You don't even have to know much of anything about the previous MCU movies to enjoy it.

My wife is not a Marvel movie fan and went in expecting to hate this movie. She absolutely loved it.

Marvel is excellent at making us non comic book readers feel like we know these characters. Loved Paul Rudd in this and I always enjoy seeing Evangeline Lilly in films, as Lost is one of my favorite shows of all time.

When Paul Rudd told his nine-year-old son he was going to be Ant-Man, his son said, "Wow, I can't wait to see how stupid that'll be."

Haha. I love reading about actors' kids keeping them humble.
