Could be the next Oden...Anthony Davis to likely miss Olympics after injuring ankle in workout

Anthony Davis, the No. 1 overall draft pick of the New Orleans Hornets, suffered a severely sprained ankle in a workout Saturday and almost assuredly will bypass a chance to play for Team USA this summer in the London Olympics, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Davis, 19, had been invited with several players to work out for Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski prior to a July training camp in Las Vegas, but the injury has likely left the Hornets – and Davis – not wanting to risk the young star's participation, sources said.
With several key Team USA frontcourt players lost to injuries for the Olympics – including NBA All-Stars Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh – Davis had an excellent chance to make the final roster. Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo and Krzyzewski were intrigued with Davis' talents. A 6-foot-11 shot-blocker, Davis was a serious contender to make the roster.
Davis played a spectacular freshman season at Kentucky, where he became a first-team All-America and led the Wildcats to the national championship.
Besides Howard and Bosh, the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose and the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade will also miss the Olympics because of injuries.

But damn what a blow for the US team. There is absolutely no legit big men now other than Chandler. Bosh, Howard, Bynum all not playing. Then you add in Rose and Wade missing from the back court and our team looks relatively weak compared....to a team like a Spain who can roll with Rubio, Ferandez, Ibaka, P Gasol, M Gasol....
