Those long dog days before that first meaningful game in Sept. Absence does seem to make the heart grow fonder.
For those of you unaware of this - DirecTV and a few farsighted cable companies carry NFL Network.
Its true value to pro football fans can't be accurately measured during the teeth of the regular football season, because there's plenty of other competing programming on ESPN (NFL Tonight) and shows on HBO, Fox etc.
Since NFL Network broadcasts 24/7/365¼ - we will always have someplace to turn to during the dog months.
My only hope is that they gradually add more original content so that they don't have to recycle Total Access etc. and stuff from NFL films.
Specifically, in a perfect world - (a) full Combine coverage - including the timing of players in the forty, cone drills etc. (Heck! It beats the NFL Challenge volleyball and weight lifting events you see on ESPN2), (b) more in-depth coverage of the draft - including how each team's war room approaches the draft, more detailed evaluation of top 1- -15 prospects by position etc. and (c) more behind-the-scenes mini and training camp coverage.
Regarding the Combine - to make this truly "interactive", have NFL.com allow fans to complete the Wunderlic test on-line and then provide each fan with their score (to see how we guys stack up with pro prospects).
