Listening on 98.7 right now and they're discussing how Veldheer missed practice yesterday for "personal reasons". I'm really starting to wonder if he's thinking about retirement. Guy just turned 30 and is going into the last year of his contract. Combine that with the CTE report that came out earlier this week and there just might be some dots to connect here. Should we be concerned, or am I reading too much into this?

I would say you are reading too much into it. Players have personal days all the time for a variety of reasons and they never really seem to be about a player retiring.

It would probably be the best decision for him and his family if he left the game. He might be more set up with his time in the league and his compensation than all lot of other players. But the damage is probably already done.

Not saying that was the reason he missed for personal reason though.

Why would it be the best decision for Veldheer to retire when he is starting still and wants to play?

The OP was just wondering. I really doubt he is worried about CTE. But if he was worried about his future with CTE I think leaving the game would be a great option for him. It is a personal choice for him not me.

Veldheer doesn't seem like the kind of player who retires early. The CTE reports are very troubling, and could be a game changer for some players, no question. Thus, your question is a reasonable one to ask. I think, however, Veldheer has two years left on his contract (@ app. $7M in 2017 and $7M in 2018).

You are right. I thought he originally signed for 4 years. It was a 5 year deal

He's back at practice today. Personal days are actually pretty frequent, especially for vets.

It's simply a veterans day off, which people get all the time.

Dude takes a day off, and everyone speculates that he's quitting. I hope my bosses don't react like this the next time I take PTO.

lol right?

The presason really needs to start.

I'm looking at him right now on the practice field. He's completely fine, although by his body language I'd say he's feeling slightly depressed about the country's political situation, and also he's a bit gassy from a long night of nachos and contemplating retirement.

:p

Get us an update thread on camp!

I'm workin on it, taking pics and videos now.

Quick notes;

RNK looks like a different player compared to camp last year. He's too much for the 2nd team guys to handle.

Palmer looks like he's already over TC and ready to start the season.

I haven't seen Phil Dawson miss a FG yet.

There's this guy wearing #11 who looks the same as he always does. :)

Reddick is not really blowing my mind, but he's out there.

Please let me know if Fitz drops a pass so I can conclude that he doesn't have it anymore and invalidate any accomplishment he's made in the NFL.

Heard that Blaine Gabbert has had a great camp, so I guess it's fair to say we have Palmer's successor and that Gabbert will lead us to 5 straight Super Bowls.
