Anyone believe we need an extra QB?

Anyway, I believe we should have an extra QB with game experience. Our excitement for lots of offense could well come to a quick halt if Blake got injured (pray it doesn't happen). Unless there is a tremendous confidence in the ability of our two backups (McCown and Parsons) to take the reins immediately, then it probably would be a good idea to have another backup, who has seen a somewhat significant amount of time under fire in game situations.
Anyony have any ideas concerning what QBs, with game experience, are available?
Or, do you think we're going with what we got!

This is a very good question / concern. It seems the Cards have never been aggressive about the QB situation. Six years of Plummer and only Dave Brown as the back up. Last year was the worst for QB depth. I guess the hope this year is that McCown or Parsons will be able to step in if the worst happens.

Maybe the Cards are waiting to see how the youngins do in preseason before looking for a vet backup. Or maybe they are waiting for someone to get cut because a rookie with potential takes their roster spot.

CB and QB are the only 2 positions on this team that need attention depth wise, this could still be addressed as teams continue to make roster moves prior to the season opener.

I think that we are much weaker at CB than QB. Graves may have turned a weak position at WR into a strong one through the draft and trades. We haven't addressed DB's except for UDA.

I agree completely. We have to hope teams up against the cap still have to unload some talent at CB. Not a likely scenario but our only other hope is that Stone gets a clue this year, which is more unlikely.

Now that we agree on the CB situation are you confident in our backups at QB for this year? I know I still have some major concerns if Blake gets hurt.

I have to disagree about CB depth being worse than QB depth. Hill and Rheinhardt should certainly be replaced if possible, but they have a lot more game experience than McCown. What's more, each has actually been adequate on the field. Which we can't say about McCown's game last year. The only positive I see about McCown is that Graves and Mac say nice things about him. But, Mac used to praise Brown and Greisen too when he expalined why we weren't getting another QB back then.

Yes, I think we need another QB. I can't remember ever going into camp with just three arms. We need one just to save wear and tear on Blake alone. I guess the plan is to see how McCown does in preseason. If he struggles, myabe we pick up a free agent (not much there) or another team's cut.

I think that we should bring a veteran arm, and as crazy as it sounds, I was hoping we would bring in Akili Smith to push McCown and Parsons.

For the right price, Akili Smith is a good thought. He just did not have a consistent offensive line to show any of his stuff, before Kitna took over. Undoubetedly he had lost all of his confidence. He could well be a gem in the rough. The year before last I believe he played the first ten or so games. So he has a lot more on the field experience than McCown.
Like I said though - for the right price.

He has already signed with, I think, the Packers...

And he always had a consistent offensive line (the Bungles have an underrated line) but the Bungles never gave him the opportunity to start for the long haul, as the Browns did with Couch and we did with Plummer.

Smith signed with the Cheeseheads last week.

I would bet that the Cards would bring a camp QB in to handle some throws. According to Mac, they will be cutting a WR before they go to camp and that would free up a spot.

Yeah he did sign with GB and I think it is a risk worth taking for them. Worse case he is cut but being able to grow with a Hall of Fame QB cannot hurt. The only question raised by GB doing this is the fact that Pederson resigned so they have experienced backup and Nall was throwing lights out in NFLE. Plus they have the UDFA kid on the roster and now Smith. Spreading the reps out too much.

In a perfect world, the Cards bring in another experienced QB to fight for a spot but I still fall back on the loss of reps for McCown AND Parsons will hurt them. Unless the coaches or Graves thinks neither McCown or Parsons can do the job, they should stick with the 3 they have and rep the hell out of them. I cannot see stripping away reps from Parsons and McCown...and even Blake...simply to add an experienced guy.

The question is a loaded one - sort of like: "How would you rather be poisoned, with arsenic or cyanide?

We have questionmarks at both positions.

We have plenty of backup depth at CB. But we're missing a vital element - a second starting CB we can count on. Barrett may turn out to be that guy, but right now I view him as the best of Hill and Rhinehart with Nelson the wildcard.

At QB, McCown remains unproven at a position where it would be kind of nice to have a proven experienced backup signal caller.

At both CB and QB, we have guys that MAY be capable of stepping up and getting the job done. But we can't know for sure until they prove it on the field.

I'd like us to add one of each of anyone decent were available (which apparently isn't likely).

McCown needs to have quality minutes this pre-season. Its to bad he did not play in NFL Europe. We would have a better idea of his capabilities than we do now.

In my opinion, Barrett makes a fine second corner.
