No, I've got high-speed internet. The game is just getting posted up to a newsgroup (they rar it into 50mb files, there's 39 of them)so I've got to wait for it to be complete on my newsgroup server before I can get them all, then extract them and either burn it to a DVD-R or ftp it to my xbox harddrive. :)

Then I've got to play it a while and let you know it it's any good. :p

Ok, I've just finished playing my 1st game of ESPN NBA Basketball and I think I liked NBA 2K3 better. So far the new version has been fairly frustrating. Almost any layup or dunk attempt with anyone close to you has a 50% chance of being blocked and a 50% chance of missing if it doesn't get blocked. Also pretty much anytime I try a dribble move (crossover, spin, fake, etc) I get called for a charge because the guy moves forward as he does the move. They've made it harder to steal the ball (which was probably a good thing). Now it seems like I only get steals by picking off passes instead of being able to take the ball from a guy dribbling. The AI is much better at picking apart your defense and finding the open man and making him cut to the basket (strangely when one of your guys is open he doesn't cut to the basket).

Like I said, this is my 1st impression after 1 game. The gameplay has changed a lot since 2k3. Free throws are a little bit harder because they've added a height meter that you have to wait for while you hold the triggers to aim.

Ok I finished another game vs. the Spurs. I still haven't found a way to score with Marbury. Everytime I try a dribble move I get a charge. This game did go better despite the 8 charges called against me. I think Tim Duncan got about 12 blocks including the most ridiculous block I've ever seen. Amare is double teamed by Duncan and Nesterovic out to the 3pt line along the baseline, Amare throws the ball right under the basket to Zarko who goes up to dunk and Duncan comes flying in from the 3pt line to block the dunk.........that's crazy. Other than that I'm starting to like the game. I think I need to reduce the charging call frequency so I don't foul out with Marbury every game. The guys still attempt too many layups when they're within dunking range, even when there is no defender.

Thanks for the update. I will keep look to rent it from blockbuster when it comes out. I read some reviews on the game and they had it ranked higher than any other b-ball game out there. But the grafics didn't look that good compaired to Live.

I have 2k3, I'm almost tempted just to go with Live04, that way I have something different. I played ESPN 04 on my friend's PS2 today, seemed exactly the same as it was last year for my xbox. I don't know if I want the same game twice...

Just a quick question to those or have espn basketball on the PS2. When you're in the playoffs does the playoff logo appear on the court?

I think that kind of realism adds so much more to the game, when you finally reach the playoffs. It which was missing in 2k3.

Rented ESPN 2k4 this weekend and I give it a big Thumbs Down the game play sucks compaired to Live and the grafics were alittle bit better, but I just could find a good camera angle to play the game. I realy hopping to go back to 2k4 but I am glad I rented it instead. I recomend Live over Espn this year.

Sweet D, how realistic of a sim is Live compared to 2k4. I'm deciding which to buy.

The players look short and cartoony on Live... Is it better then 2003?
