After about what? Almost 2 weeks now and reading up on this Marbury trade I have gone from reserving judgement about it to pretty excited. If all reports are true about Lampe and that euro PG, our future looks real good. Aside from that, we cleared money to potentianly sign a stud FA. Has anyone else changed their mind one way or the other?

Initially I hated the trade. The Suns gave up an all-star top 1-3 PG for damaged goods (mcdyess) with an expiring contract, Ward with a buyout, Eisley with a bad contract and some prospects.

They did get rid of Penny, which I was very happy about.....even though he was playing decently this season.

Still, I'm starting to come around on the trade because it does give the team alot more flexibility for the future. I still think that this team (if left in tact) could've been in the playoffs every year. Do I think they could've won a championship......no, but they could've been competitive.

Not me. Even though I liked Marbury, I saw right off that the money saved opened up a lot of possibilities. I will say I'm a lot happier after reading the articles on Lampe & Vujanic. I wish we could see these young guys play:thumbup:

I was a week ahead of the Republic in thinking Lampe made this deal sway to our favor. We are continually searching for big men. I was going to post a saying I heard Don Nelson say on the night of the trade that summed up my feelings, "You always try to trade small men for big men!" I liked the deal from the standpoint that we ARE in a building year EVEN WITH Marbury here. We have gone really young in our lineup except for Williams, Penny, and Googs. Both Googs and Williams will be gone, and now we moved Penny's contract, too. If we hadn't moved Penny, we would be two years away from making the moves we can make this off season. So in effect we moved ahead two years in the rebuilding phase. Plus two first round picks are gold in today's salary cap situation. I am firmer in my resolve that this is a good trade.

I still don't like the trade. Hype on young unknown prospects is always exaggerated, especially for international players. The only question is by how much. The payoff for players with "potential" is very low -- for every one whose potential pans out, there are five (ten? fifty?) who are busts.

But hey, if I turn out to be wrong, I'm sure there will be plenty of people here ready to point that out to me. :p

ok, maybe i'm starting to come around, too. as a minnesota twins fan, part of what's cool about them the last couple of years is they had young guys that came up through the organization and they became a good team when not too many people thought they would. maybe that's what the suns will do.

i'm not into bringing kobe in. commit to your players, bring in a mid-level guy if need be for a limited number of years (no 4-6 year contracts if possible) if need be. i don't care if the c's want to save a little cash. if all their young guys pan out, they'll end up paying them eventually.........or, they'll become the clippers........

here's to the suns----the minnesota twins of the nba!!:D

I am feeling better about it. I still think the Jury is out on the trade. If the team starts winning some games this year (shows real promise) and this guy from europe comes over and shows some promise then I will feel good. We gave up a lot though. So far it doesn't look like a win for NY though since they haven't been winning either.

That's the only reason I stick around here! :D

As for me, I am softened to the trade a lot more than I was. I hated it at first. Now, I'm still a little nervous, but not angry anymore.

From day one I thought that Lampe was the key and I've heard more good stuff about his game and his size since the trade so I'm more hopeful he'll work out as a high post center. I don't think Kobe or T-Mac is what this team needs nearly as much as a good center so I don't really see the cap space has having a lot of value. Now if Brad Miller were a FA this summer I'd have a different view about that... and if I thought the Suns would have the sense to pursue him. Actually, if the Suns waste their money on anyone but a center the cap space will probably wind up hurting them.

Where can you find list of Free Agents for 2005? I would like to know list to determine if a player ala Vlade Divac etc. would be worth signing for a 1 year contract and waiting for 2005.
