The Knicks losing to the Suns at home tonight, it doesn't look good for D'Antoni making it through the year. I wonder how bad he wants Nash on the Knicks this year?

Feel bad for D'Antoni? As inflexible and limited as he has been as an NBA coach, he should be thankful that he is still an NBA coach, getting big bucks in a major market.

It was a joke.

There is a thread on the Knicks board that Mike must go. Here is a recent post:

Losing to a lottery team (on a 5 game losing streak, who arrived at 3am and playing in a back-to-back, AT HOME)

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1149922

You already hit the nail on the head. DA needs a PG in the worst way. Nash could turn the Knicks into a scoring machine and with Tyson Chandler there they could be very good. However, DA has never paid much attention to defense. It's not going to happen but Nash could save his job. Shumpert would look pretty good in a Suns uniform. Too bad the Suns could not get him in the draft. He is minimally a SG as he develops.

If Mike _'Antoni with his treating defense as a joke at Press conferences and "It's not my job to develop young players" had not been with the Suns, I could joke about him. But the memories are still too fresh. 'Sorry!

The problem the Knicks have is they don't have anyone to trade for him. Maybe the Suns could get somehting back in a 3 way trade. He still has Amare and Anthony and lost to the Suns. They looked a little more motivated

I don't feel bad for him at all. He had his chance with the Suns and refused to play Kurt Thomas in Game 1 against the Spurs. He deserves eternal suffering.

Well the Suns replaced him with Terry Porter and we soon ended up with his #1 assistant. The defense got no better but we played up tempo basketball were fun to watch while making it to the WCF. Everyone likes Gentry. Basically we still are the team D'Antonni had with less talent.

In New York they got him a PG to run his offense last year, Felton. The traded him for Melo and a walk it up PG. They dropped him so they could sign another big which they needed but they have no one to run his offense except the ultimate ball stopper, Melo.

After the game Melo played tonight they should have a thread to get rid of him as well, but he is from Brooklyn.

How many of us called this? Go back to the threads when D'Antoni went to the Knicks. I remember having debates with several on the board who were saying D'Antoni would bring a title to NY. I laughed because despite D'Antonis success here I thought he was also the reason the Suns never got over the top. If he had cared more about defense IMO, was any good at in game adjustments and was more flexible, the Suns possibly could have gotten one or even two titles while he was here.

He made his offensive minded stamp on the Knicks right away and 4 years later he is where I thought he would be.....possibly headed out the door.

Did you hear the game commentary last night???

Amare plans on taking off games for his knees this year. Sounds like Amare is having some possible issues with soreness this year.

While I believe Coach Pringles sucks... has anyone taken note on how Carmelo is a team killer? Their record since his arrival pretty much put the brakes on the Knicks breakout season with Amare - AND Denver took off after he left!

'Melo is a ball hog and an offense killer - meaning, he kills his teammates with his dribbling and 5/22 shooting nights.

I used to really like D'Antoni. But then I saw his stubbornness about getting help with defense and the way he pouted and ran quickly out of town after another failed season. He deserves what he gets. He's on the hot seat right now. He won't last until the end of the season in NY.

The Knicks are now 20-28 (including playoffs) since trading for Carmelo. It slays me that the media operates under the illusion that the Knicks are anything special. They suck. They do nothing well, absolutely nothing.

A have a little bit of sympathy for Mike, in that the Knicks acquired players that fit his system over the period of 2 1/2 seasons and seemed to be slowly improving. Then midway through last year they began a process of dumping all of them in order to assemble a team made of the most overpaid and overrated players possible and ensuring that compliment each other. And after creating this frankenstien roster that does not fit Mike's very specfic system at all they raised their expectations to "Title or bust", not realizing that "Bust" was a 99.9% likelihood no matter who was at the helm of the Costa Concordibockers.

But, with that said, much of the Knicks problems are Mike's own doing. He is pathetic at player development, he does not adjust to his rosters and he has no clue how to manage his bench. That bench thing is really going to come to a head in this compacted schedule.

But I see no hope for him or the currently constructed Knicks. They wont fire him until Davis is "healthy". And then when the Knicks are still floudering Mike will get canned sometime around late feb. The Knicks will still make the playoffs, only by virtue of being in the pathetic East, with a record of 30-36 and proceed to get obliterated in the 1st round. And next season will be a repeat of this season, only with a different coach to scapegoat and their injury prone big man will continue his steep decline.

In a way I kinda feel sorry for anyone who has to coach Carmelo Anthony. That guy defines selfish and I don't see him ever having any great success outside of pretty good individual stats from time to time.

I don't feel sorry for Coach D'Antonni or Amare.

I feel sorry for Phoenix Suns Fans and Steve Nash.

I feel sorry that Robert Sarver bought this franchise and proceeded to destroy and disassemble the "Fantastic Four" (Nash, Amare, Shawn and Johnson) while not supporting the roster with quality role players to help on the defensive end and a quality back up for Steve Nash to save him for the playoffs. If he would have done that we might have won a Championship with the group he was handed.

I feel sorry that Sarver ran D'Antonni out of town. He was our MVP's favorite Coach and that pairing produced some of the most exciting basketball the league has ever seen.

I feel sorry for us that Sarver ran BC out of Town, who built what Sarver has destroyed.

I feel sorry for us that he gave D'Antonni his third job (Coach of Suns, Assitant Coach on Olympic Team and Suns GM) after he ran BC out of town and we acquired Marcus Banks.

I feel sorry for us that he hired Steve Kerr, who initiated D'Antonni's departure and hired Terry Porter. He then changed the roster to support Porter rather adding to the roster to support what we had. The fall from glory began under Steve Kerr's watch. He traded Marion for Shaq while not winning a ring and adding to payroll. Did he make any good draft day decisions? He will be remembered for trading draft picks for cash and Luxury tax relief. Yep he basically was a horrible GM, when you look at the whole picture rather than what his supporters would like you to see. Kerr was the beginning of the end for this franchise's winning ways.

Scoreboard:

D'Antonni - Made the playoffs and we were the favorite team in the league every year he was coach after the partial season when he took over the team. They were exciting that first year while winning 29 games. Fans complained but could not get enough of the team.

Steve Kerr - Was hired because he has some rings because of Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan while being Sarver's buddy. Since he and Bob forced D'Antonni out of town and we have had to live with his roster moves and draft choices. We have made the playoffs 2 out of 4 years. This year will make it 2 out of 5. Those appearances were when we and Steve Nash still had Amare. The next year we will be in the playoffs is in doubt.

I don't feel sorry for Coach D'Antonni or Amare but I do miss watching the exciting basketball that they provided in Phoenix.

I do miss watching this team in the playoffs while competing with the best teams in the league on a nightly basis.

This from a Knicks fan from ESPN:

Listen 2 that, Gallo scores career high, vs the knicks. 37 pts in the garden. it is sad, shameful, and as a knicks fan, i'm in hiding. this is not a knicks coach, it's pheonix east, and this is not a knicks team. guys like amare and melo aren't knicks guys. they don't play d, they don't rebound their positions relative to their talent, and the biggest sin, they don't defend, relative to talent, relative to desire, relative to KNICKS basketball. I hate this team. I hated the moves from the beginning because they were poor band-aids and seat filling moves, not ones to get a championship. I hate that since the end of the 90's we payed ridiculous money to guys in the same positions. we have no pg but 30 forwards, no center but 50 2 guards. it is pathetic! I will continue to be a knicks fan, but not a fan of this team.
