Anyone hear Amare may opt out?

Sorry if this is old news, but NBATV has a blurb on their scrolling news saying Amare will opt out of his contract if he doesn't receive an offer from the Suns by July 1.

But the Suns will have Amare's Bird Rights after July 1st, until he signs with another team.

However, why am I even writing this as the Suns cannot even afford Kerr and other FO salaries not to mention player salaries.

One of the ESPN guys on the radio just came out and said Amar'e is gone, and that's why Kerr stepped down. He said no way Sarver will pay Amar'e when he's asking Kerr to take a 10 percent pay cut, and Kerr knows that, too.

This is called speculation. Kerr was even less of an Amare fan than Sarver.

That is what I thought. Sarver and Amare are buddies but I think Kerr was never that high on Amare.

Well, one thing is very interesting. Sarver has taken over all decision making on player personnel. Kerr is a lame duck except perhaps some input on the draft. Sarver determines what happens with Amare and the rest of the Suns team. He will either be praised or condemned for what happens next.

Where did you come up with this information? I suspect Sarver's always had the last word but that doesn't seem to be what you're saying. The only thing I've read on this is where Kerr talked about there being a group involved that was prepared to continue once he's gone.

It's not Kerr's efforts, but $arver's willingness to pay Amare. I'm sure efforts were made, but Amare has been steadfast demanding a max deal and clearly the Suns have been hesitant to give him one. Not much else can be done until free agency starts and Amare's market value is determined.

If Amare wants the money, no matter what, then he's gone. If he cares about going to a team with some talent, then he may have to change his demands.

The Suns have been hesitant to give him a max deal. Anyone who knows anything about money and basketball would do the same.

I think Sarver is cheap but I wouldn't categorize not signing Amare as a cheap move. There's a lot more than money involved in that decision.

The problem is that some teams are so bad that they are willing to take the risk.

I remember the devate over Tracy McGrady. When healthy, he was a great player but he got a big conract from the Rockets and he was rarely healthy. It could have been the Suns.

But are those teams championship contenders? This summer will not only be Amare's payday, but it will also go a long way in seeing what kind of person he is.
