For a math project our group is using parametric equations to describe a kick etc...

I was wondering if you guys had any kicking tips we could use in the project? (tips not related to math but on how to kick the ball)

Thanks

I kicked in Junior high....

Punting: It takes some practice but you want to kick the side of the football with your foot (toe pointing out) so it creates a spin and will be a spiral down the field. Its hard to explain in writing. You want to avoid kicking the ball off the side of your foot or it will just go off to the left about 10 yards.

Kicking: As you approach the ball you want to plant your non kicking foot and drive into the ball kicking it on the lower half while pointing your toe.

I have never been a kicker, but as a teacher I am curious about the lesson itself. :)

My group is working on it tonight, I'll post it tonight or tommorow.

I punted and kicked on the side (not bad---used to be able to hit 35-40 yarders without fail), but I was the ONLY one who was able to longsnap on the team, so I couldn't do the others in a game.

When you punt (right-footed), you want to let the ball go from your hand to your foot parallel to the ground, laces-up, and make sure the ball is on the outer portion of your foot. Don't drop the ball, or minimize the drop, as you lose control. Also, don't put the ball all the way on the outside of your foot---just a tad bit---this creates the spiral.

Kicking: Plant your non-kicking foot directly beside the football, at a distance to the side that is comfortable for your size. use the instep of your foot, towards the toes, with the foot pointed down as if the toes were the end of an arrow. Keep your head down, use your hips, and use your arms---they are the key to creating torque with your hips. For a right footed kick, you would throw your left arm and shoulder back and rip your right arm across the body, with your hips following it, as you kick.

So, there are a few tips, if you still need them.

Quick story about Kicking and me.
Never did it well but one day I put it on a Tee and from fifty yards blasted it through the uprights 2x in front of the coach at Greenway high school. He put me in as the kicker against Prescott and it was freezing cold! I shanked it about 25 yards sliced rt. out of bounds.
I made eye contact with him and he was disgusted and needless to say the next time we kicked off he said "anyone but me"
Suxored for me.. I hated kickoffs cause I also nearly got knocked out in a game from a blindside hit.

I kicked off 7 times against Burgaw HS during my Sr year. Our regular kicker was ejected during the first KO. My right leg was a little tired after the first 6 so I did number 7 with my left foot... popped it inside the ten with my left. BTW, I made the first six tackles on my KOs... I rung the kicker's gunner's bell on my 7th...

as a kid

i was messing around with a football on the street. A tailwind sailed my high, short punt into a neighbors window. I had to wash a few cars and mow a few lawns for that...
this would have been '75 or '76
