I can't believe that you don't like ghormeh sabzi! That's like a sin...or something. I can understand why you wouldn't like fesenjoon, I didn't like it at first but I like it a lot not. Koobideh is also my favorite and thumbs up on the rice with yogurt. I like to have that sometimes when we are running out of khorosh. My parents were in the Peace Corps and both speak Farsi. The eating habits they picked up there are the reason why I eat plain yogurt with rice (most Americans find that disgusting). Whenever my dad meets Iranians, they're always amused by all the colloquial expressions he knows. I've never been to the Persian Room (too far) but I have been to Tasty Kabob (on Apache between Rural and McClintock) many times. I usually get beef koobediah which is at the bottom of the top picture. My parents really like Ghormeh Sabzi (I don't) and Fesenjoon (looks like diarrhea) a lot. Tasty Kabob also has great saffron/rosewater ice cream.
I wonder if they have tacheen, that's my favorite kind of rice. It's made with chicken, yogurt and saffron and if you get it from the right place it turns out really good.

At home I like to have some extra yogurt with it too. It's pretty good. Once I got my mom to experiment with steak instead of chicken in it, pretty good.I will HAVE to remember that...sounds great.
Ghormeh sabzi has meat. Just ask for extra meat cubes.I prefer meat-centric items.
nm, whatchoo think of tahdig? My family loves that stuff, it's the first thing gone from the table when we have a family gathering.

I haven't had Iranian ice cream for a looooong time. It's so good.
Hmmm, nm, how about doogh(I have trouble saying and spelling it)? The yogurt drink...
Yep, I've had it a bunch of times, I like it. How about...zoolbiah and bahmieh? I like it sometimes but it just seems too sweet.Never had it. On the topic of sweets, have you ever had this toffee-like candy called sohan? I think it's flavored with pistachios and saffron. Some people from my parent's old peace corps site gave them five boxes of it. It is awesomely delicious.
I don't remember any nuts so it could be Afghani..I love Persian food...especially their rice dishes with nuts (or is that Afghani that I'm thinking of)??
need a smiley that is just drooling with jealousy....My good friend's wife (both Pakistani), makes THE greatest grape leaves EVER! On top of that, she makes this basmati rice with saffron, shrimp, parsley and almonds that is just sinfully good. She does fresh made hummus, fresh flat bread and some excellent chicken and lamb dishes. Her American style cooking is not very good because she still uses ME spices in things like spaghetti and it just doesn't jive, but she can throw down some ME food....
We had a big ME cooking pot luck with all our friends and family in the fall of last year and it was some of the best eating I have ever partaken in. I made these pastry triangles stuffed with feta, ground beef, parsley and ME seasonings and my wife made a couple dishes including this very lemony turkey meatball dish that was almost a soup (almost like albondigas for Mexicans) and she made stuffed eggplant. I can't remember what else there was, but our entire 10' island and our 8' picnic table were covered with food....
Not sure if any of that stuff is Iranian but I've had some of it. I love the stuffed grape leaves! Dolmeh.....My good friend's wife (both Pakistani), makes THE greatest grape leaves EVER! I had lunch at Sabuddie's on Shea in Scottsdale, an Israeli restaurant -- it was really good. (And many of the lunch crowd were Israelis, from the sound of it.)
Best taboule I've had in years, and the labne, which is like an olive-oil-and-herb drenched cross between cream cheese and feta, was delicious. They have felafel, kebabs, various grilled veggies and meats, baba ghanouj, etc. If you like middle-eastern food, this is another definite option.
