Loud Lucy: "Ticking"

I'll periodically will update this thread of songs that for the most part were 90s "one-hit wonders" that were rather "obscure".....

This was my favorite song in late '95 to early '96......

I guess the reason why I selected this particular song is that today exactly marks my 10th anniversary of my highschool graduation and I'm (as some of you have noticed) a very sentimental person.... Anyways.. in spite that this song was released about 5-6 months after I graduated..it still played a MAJOR role of some of my highschool memories and also during my transition into college.....

Just curious though if anyone else remembers this particular song?

How about Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Change Your Mind" off of their '94 album "Sleeps With Angels"?

I know he's not an obscure artist, but it's a rare song for him....

(note: it's about 14 1/2 minutes long)....

I've never heard the Loud Lucy song. I like it. Post some more Dude.

Since you asked for some more:

These are 2 songs I'm certain that most have heard before, but havent since they were all popular back-in-the-day

The first song was released in '96 and in fact all of Geggy Tah's albums are worth checking out, but the following is by far their biggest hit:

"Whoever You Are" - Geggy Tah

They have always reminded me of Cake....Even the video "Whoever You Are" was hysterical....

James had some pretty solid albums as well, however, the following song "Laid" to me is their most memorable... It was released in '93 and the only time I have really heard of it ever since were at dance-clubs that I frequented during the late 90s in Windsor, Ontario.... In fact though.. several of my friends thought that was song annoying, but for some odd reason I've always enjoyed it:

"Laid" - James

I'll post add more when other "long lost classics" suddenly come to mind..

Well... I'm now posting 2 songs that were made especially popular on 89X (in Detroit) back in the early-mid 90s... 89X was broadcasted in both Detroit/Windsor, so fortunately Detroit listeners got exposed to several of the brilliant Canadian bands to release some of the best music during that time such as Sloan, The Odds, Our Lady Peace, Hardship Post, Barenaked Ladies (several other bands) along with the 2 other bands that will be included in this post.....

First is the Gandarvas who released the following song "The First Day of Spring" initially in 1995.... The singer really reminds me of Perry Farrell.....

"First Day of Spring" - Gandharvas

The following band Tragically Hip have had a major cult following in Canada/Detroit since the late 80s, however, they achieved a slight hint of mainstream popularity when they released this song "Grace, Too" off their '95 album "Day for Night":

"Grace, Too" - Tragically Hip

Okay...2 more songs and I'm finally off to bed:

First, a band that has always had to me a very distinct sound to them...Many may remember this '93 song of theirs the most, however, Brother Cane had several other memorable songs like "And Fools Shine On" (was on a couple of movie soundtracks), "Hard Act To Follow", and their last album '98's "Wishpool" had some of awesome songs as well....

"Got No Shame" - Brother Cane

The following song is by the band Letters To Cleo which gain some popularity between '94-'95 due to being included on the "Melrose Place" soundtrack:

"Here & Now" - Letters To Cleo

Plus.. I always thought that their singer, Kay Hanley is just as hot as she is talented (even after all these years).....At least to me she is....

The next 2 flat out rock.....

I'll never forget the 1st time I heard this next song.... A friend and I were driving around late one night around '98 and suddenly this very mysterious song came onto the radio.... We initally thought it might have been a new Alice-in-Chains songs since the vocal harmonies reminded us of Staley/Cantrell and even the guitar structure.... What was so odd is that we were singing along to the lyrics and we absolutely never have heard this song before.... It's called "Vanishing Cream" by Hunger.... We thought for the longest time the singer was singing "Fancy Free" until I came across the title a year or so later.....

"Vanishing Cream" - the Hunger

The following song might be well known... I know it was played quite a bit at least on Detroit radio stations throughout the summer-fall of '96.... Local H "Bound for the Floor".... Since they used the word copacetic constantly during the song that many assumed that was the title......

"Bound for the Floor" - Local H

I have several more lined-up, but don't want to inundate everyone at once..

Time to add 2 more?

Probably is..... Okay.... I have since come across several more.... how about a couple 90s Rap/Hiphop rarities?

The first is by little known Lucas with his '94 smash-hit "Lucas With The Lid Off" that is from his "Lucacentric" album.... Unfortunately for most... he hasnt really been heard from since, but has lent a hand in producing records....

"Lucas With The Lid Off" - Lucas

The following selection was popular back in 1997 and was prominently played during the height of my club-scene days.... White Town's "Your Woman" which always seem to rev the club-goers (including myself) up into a dancing frenzy... I used to put on quite the moves back then... although my friends liken my dancing style to that of James Brown.... Anyways.. without much further ado....

"Your Woman" - White Town

Anyways....I hope this thread has been as enjoyable for everyone as it has for me in putting it together.... I've been reaching deep into my memory bank on several songs that I havent heard in quite some time and thought it would be fun to share them with everyone.

Okay...time for 2 more:

The first song generated a lot of airplay during the summer of '95 off of their album "I Am An Elastic Firecracker"...Unfortunately, the band dissolved a few years later when their guitarist died of drug overdose....

"I Got A Girl" - Tripping Daisy

The following song was another tune released in '95 off of this band's album aptly titled "Fluke".....

"Wake Me" - Rusty

Both these songs captured the spirit/embodied the later period of Grunge/into Post-Grunge perfectly....

I'll probably be adding some more later on today.... Again.. this is a fun thread (at least to me :D)......

I guess I'll add a couple more.

Dino Jr. never became a household name, but had an influence in today's modern rock. Most of you probably already know them, I think I recall an article posted a while back.
Dinosaur Jr. "Start Choppin"

I remember seeing this video on one of MTVs late night rock shows and went out and bought it the next day. Superdrag is your standard rock band, but this song rocks.

Superdrag "Sucked Out"

Thanks for those songs Bend.....I actually had forgotten the one by Superdrag...

I apologize for neglecting this forum over the past couple of days, but I plan on catching-up on everything (including PMs) starting tomorrow...

For now though....I'll post a few more songs under this thread.....I still have several more to share with everyone..I just don't want to post all of them at once.....

Anyways... I'll begin a 1986 classic by Sly Fox.... I was around 9 when this song was released and would sing along with it...Especially hilarious considering the title (well..I did post James "Laid" this past wk and no one complained)...If people are offended by the title, then I'll immediately delete the song (although the song isnt graphic whatsoever)......

"Let's Go All The Way" - Sly Fox

The 2nd song was released in 1993 and was a staple on the radio back then and still is to a certain degree played in many dance clubs... Stereo MC's are in fact still around, but many would agree that they never reached the success as they did on this song.....

"Connected" - Stereo MC's

Yeah.. she definitely is a hottie and very talented...according to Cardinal Bob under this thread she possesses more than just those two attributes.....

Okay.... time to add 2 more? Trying to figure out which ones I'll post this time.... Perhaps I'll go all Canadian with this one....

The first song was released by a band that has been extremely popular in Canada since the early 90s and have received some airplay here.....

This was released off of their debut album "Smeared" and if it wasnt for 89X playing this song when it was initially released in '93, I would never have heard of them... Always have reminded me of both the Beatles and the Stone Roses.. Sometimes they do their Kiss like guitar solos which are awesome...

"Underwhelmed" - Sloan

Sloan is a band whose sound changes from album to every album and this captured them best when they sounded quite Psychadelic with a slight mixture of Grunge...

The next band is also from Canada and they had some relatively minor hits throughout their career and to me this is their best song...also from '93 off of their 2nd album "Bebdugs" the song "It Falls Apart" which really minds me a cross of the Beatles and Crowded House....

"It Falls Apart" - the Odds

I guess it's time to add a couple of more.... In fact.. I was in the process of posting these 2 songs last wk, but I somehow deleted the post before it processed through... Unfortunately..I was too tired at the moment to retry it...

The first song many of you may be already familiar with, however, you never know who actually performed it.... I recall them playing it at several AZ Cardinals home games... Anyways.. it was initially released in '96 off of this band from London, England, self-titled album....

"Ready To Go" - Republica

And I must say that I always thought their singer Saffron is out: I've always had this thing for those Gothic/Punk type looking females (I guess those Suicide Girls are just so exotic/erotic looking)..... Here's a photo of her: I dont know when it was exactly taken, but she's now in her late 30s...

The following song is by a popular band from New York, NY who has been a strong influential act themselves since the early 80s... I would have to say this '94 song is my all-time fave by them:

"Bull in the Heather" - Sonic Youth

Thanks for contributing those 2... I actually had thought of including those myself, but it always slipped my mind....

I always loved watching "Fade Into You" since Hope Sandoval was so hot (and IIRC she still is)....

I'll never forget one time a friend of mine wore a L7 concert t-shirt to a Detroit Tiger game and one of the ushers had him immediately turn it inside out since she deemed it too offensive... I love "Pretend That We're Dead" a lot...

I'll add a cpl of more myself...

The first was recorded and released in '90 by a band from the Netherlands and essentially this was their first and only big hit:

"Deeper Shade of Soul" - Urban Dance Squad

The following band I know many really despise, but I always loved this song for some odd reason... Off of their '92 release "America's Least Wanted":

"Everything About You" - Ugly Kid Joe

I always loved "Pat" in the beginning of the song... Also.. who can forget their remake of "Cats & The Cradle"?

Time for a cpl more? I certainly believe so....

The first song this time around...I'm going very "old-school" here with this classic
from a Brooklyn, NY based Rap band who recorded the following song that has been immortalized since:

"Jam On It" - Newcleus

The next song was recorded by a late legendary artist that many of you know from where he got his start.... This 1986 song was orignally on the Sid & Nancy soundtrack and it flat out rocks...

"Love Kills" - Joe Strummer

Well... it's been awhile since I added anything to this thread, so I considered that now is about time that I finally did......

The first song is performed by a side-project of Lou Barlow who has gained fame from his time as the original bassit of Dinosaur Jr. (which he's since reunited with) and also with his band Sebadoh.... Many will remember this '94 song from the "Kids" soundtrack which received quite a buzz on both the radio and on MTV:

"Natural One" - Folk Implosion

The following song is a one-hit wonder from '96 by a band that effectively used throughout the entire song a sample loop from BB King's song "Standing":

"Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand" - Primitive Radio Gods
