he just got the invite (along w/ marbury and bronbron)

this has got to help his stock big time. Now if he happens to go to orlando they sell him as the guy who just represented his country and recent all-star. congrats to shawn, hope he goes.

It will increase Marion's stock if he plays well, but not if he doesn't. Back when McDyess played on one of the U.S. teams (in 2000?), it was widely reported that he was clueless and he barely got off the bench. I think that began to hurt his stock even before his big injury.

Sheesh American Olympics are going in the toilet. Now they are letting guys who are barely in the top 50 players of the NBA in.

Donyell Marshall must have been busy or something.

chris you couldnt be more wrong. like most people on this board you devalue marion. it isnt his scoring that makes him valueable it is the rest of his all round game.

Two years ago Marion played on the US national team that got stomped, but he was widely reported to have performed quite well. If was followed by his best season in the NBA.

Who knows, maybe Larry Brown will teach him how to keep his feet and not go for fakes on defense.

Shawn Marion did play pretty well - he did get hurt and miss some games though. The first game USA lost I believe he struggled with rest of team - he did have some good games though (was 3rd best scorer behind Paul Pierce and Michael Finley at some point in the tournament, atleast 2-4 games in)...

Scotsman,

I was being completely sarcastic.

I am glad this happened to a guy that I feel IS an ambassador of good will in American basketball. One of things I love about Shawn Marion is that he is a good and selfless person. He doesn't do things for the recognition or the hype. He is never self aggrandizing. He is a credit to our community.

Marion definitely has little areas he needs to work on in his game. The beauty of it is that with all the flaws in his game, he is still and olympian and an All-Star. Playing at the highest level of competition...practicing against other top players day in and day out certainly can't hurt.
