The Atlanta Falcons are willing to part with backup QB Matt Schaub for a second-round pick. If the Bengals choose not to re-sign free agent Jon Kitna, Schaub could emerge as a candidate to bridge the gap until Carson Palmer's return from a left knee injury. Ben Maller.com

I think the Falcons are nuts unless he won't resign with them after this year.

This would be an interesting pick up for the Cards.

He would be better than anyone else we might be tempted to take in round 2. Personally, I think this as a potential.

They've said they'd trade him for a second?

Wow. I say pull the trigger before the Jets do. Schaub has looked really good when he's played.

Make it so.

I would hate to give up a 2nd rd pick in such a deep draft, but I'd have to agree we should make this deal.

...oh, and if we do this I don't think we need to re-sign Warner.

(I know, I know..."blasphemy," right?)

I'm still waiting to hear this rumor from somewhere else besides the Dayton Daily News..........but if true I'd be all over it. 2nd rounder, throw in BJ. Schaub is better than any of the 2nd tier QBs in this draft: Jacobs, Croyle, Whitehurst, McNeal.

Add in the fact that Schaub is still very young and he is NFL ready. There is no waiting period, no adjustments that he needs to make. He is ready to start for a team. Ii say go out and make it happen. And, I disagree about not resigning Warner. Schaub becomes the #1 with Warner as a very, very solid #2.

I posted that rumor from the Ben Maller.com sight. If you know him , he compiles from many newspapers, internet articles and his own sources. He is fairly on the ball in my opinion, but not perfect at all.

I was just putting certain factors together before coming to a conclusion.

IMHO Vick is entrenched as the #1 until injury or forever.
Schaub is going into his 3rd year, which shouild mean a new contract time.
Reeves was fired because of disdain for Vick.
The just recently fired QB coach might have left for the same reason.
Schaub has performed very well when called on.
Schaub's style and game cannot be even practiced with Falcon's Vick tailored offense.

So maybe his agent has asked for Falcon's to shop him, or maybe the Falcons are clearing the deck for Marcus Vick to come into town. Stranger things have happened.

Maybe none of this is true or will happen, but I would do it if it could be done. Hell yes, throw in Bryant Johnson and Shipp , if they want them.

Isnt the new Falcons QB coach Shaubs old QB or head coach (forget which one) from college. I thought I heard that somewhere, I could be wrong.

I seem to remember that the Cardinals were very high on Schaub and wanted to draft him in 2004, hoping he would last until the 4th round. They took Dockett at the top of the 3rd and had the 4th pick in the 4th. However, the Falcons snagged him at the end of the 3rd round and the Cards ended up with Stepanovich.

Seems like they would still be interested in him but that was pre-Denny, so no one can be sure. I say, based on how Schaub has played covering for Vick the past 2 years, he looks like the real deal. Big kid with a real strong arm, a packet passer that stretches the field and plays with alot of poise. I know there are some analysts, as well as, some Atlanta fans that think they would be better off with Schaub as their starter because the passing game is so much better with him in there.

If the story is true, I think it would be a great move to trade for this guy. I'd hate t give up a 2nd rounder though. I think I would try to get him for a 3rd w/ a player thrown in. If there's any teeth to it at all, Graves should be on the phone yesterday.

Ooh, Wally, I usually disdain your conspiracy theories, but I like the Marcus Vick to Atlanta thought :)

I'd offer our second round pick for Schaub. He's better than any QB who would be on the board at that point.

I don't know if we'd have anything else that could sweeten the deal to push it in our favor. Maybe a conditional 2007 pick as well?

They only want a 2nd rounder.....why give them more. And furthermore, let's be fair here.....BJ is not a "throw in" worthy player.

2004 wasn't pre Green....it was his 2nd draft.

Schaub would need to be renrgotiated before I'd be thinking of trading for him. He's soon to be a FA (2007).
