After all of the signings today and the Rhodes release (gives us $6 million) and the expected Kolb release (gives us $7.5 million), does anyone want to attempt to figure out how much money the Cards have available?

Can't be done until we get the figures.

Not enough money to get a starting QB, RB, TE, OG, OLB, SILB, #2 CB, SS and FS. Even with the draft.

Well I think we got our RB, #2 or 3 CB, and a safety who can really play either position, and a ST demon/backup LB.

We got a QB, backup at worst, potential starter at best. Though nothing to write home about.

We've cut our 4th WR, SS, FS, lost our #3 CB, cut #2 CB, plus lost Groves. Plus likely won't resign our KR/3rd RB.

Still in negative territory in total positions, but we've at least started the signing process.

In my opinion, our ST defense got better, probably about even regarding Toler/Powers, QB situation got better, RB situation got better, and while Bell is rather old I thought he was pretty dang good on the Dolphins when he was there.

Still need to see figures but I think we have a chance to sign more people and be net positive and overall have better fits for what the new coaches want and longer term security with what they want (i.e. don't have to worry about Rhodes next contract...that sort of thing).

I guess we have the possiblity of Reed, Landry, Cason, Nnamdi, and others. Chances with Maualuga, Dansby (though I'm almost certain $$$ won't work), Cribbs, and of course others.

If we sign some of the above I think we'll turn net positive. Be interesting to see how much cap we have.

The Cardinals tried to figure it out, but apparently Rod Graves did now allow calculators in the facility. What I did find odd is that there are about 30 of these on eBay right now being sold by a RedBowTie69.

Right now we're 10.6M under the cap and that's with Kolb and Rhodes still under contract. Once they are officially released we'll be nearly 24m under the cap....

Keep in mind that Stanton, Mendenhall, Powers, Alexander, Bell and Cribbs haven't been added yet so that should eat up the rest IMO. Overthecap.com DOES include Hoyer's 2M though.

Remember we need 6M for our Draft Picks so if we cut Kolb that should be around 18M. It will take a day or two for those cap web sites to update.

6 million??

The rookie cap used to be like around 4 million when there was no cap on rookie contracts? How the hell could it be 6 now?? Serious question??

Rookie contracts are structured differently. Back then rookies had almost no salary year 1 but huge salaries in the last couple of years of their deals. Now their salaries are 100% guaranteed and the value in the 4th year isn't much different than in the 1st.

They eat up as much more cap in the 1st year than before, but a lot less in the final years of the deal.

Gives teams more incentive to be patient with rookies and less incentive to cut them halfway through their contract.

Getting the feeling that there is no signing as of today, which would meet your definition of quality.

I love the idea of Jerraud Powers as a #3 CB. He has been very productive Cb when healthy. He had more starts and is an upgrade from Toler IMO. What I don't like is the idea of counting on him to be our #2 CB. If that is the case, you can count on Flemming or whomever is our #3 CB to start at least 4 games for Powers because he has never played an entire season.

That is about it though. Alexander, Stanton, Bell, and Mendenhall are all pretty average talents and only Mendenhall is under 29 I think.

If you were in the top 10 its always hovered around 6 mill.

Not exactly. It will cost 6 mill in total to sign them all, but not all 6 mill will cost against the cap. Only the top 51 salaries count towards the cap and your 3rd through 7th rounders wont make enough to be in that top 51. Plus not to mention those guys wont be signed until what July?

So what I am getting at? People should stop worrying about cap space for the rookies when deciding on how much cap space we currently have left.

Rod Graves would be in tears right now.

I can picture Rod in his office saying "somewhat ought to write software that does this. I could just put in a number into a box and it would tell me how that impacted our cap."

This is the best update I could get.

After cutting Kevin Kolb, spotrac has us at $104.997 mil in salaries against the cap in 2013. This does not count the 2013 cap hits for the Jasper Brinkley, Jerraud Powes, Lorenzo Alexander and Rashad Johnson contracts. With a $123 mil salary cap, this would put us around $18 mil available before those 4 player's cap hits are factored in.

How about now after the signings of Shaugnessy and Cason? Any room for more free agents?
