Anyone wonder why Paul Silas never got a shot as Suns head coach?

After having seen him coach well, it makes me wonder why he didn't get a shot at the Suns head coaching spot. He definatly put in his time as an assistant. From the way some of you question FJ's coaching style, maybe you guys would be happier with Silas as a coach. Probably not. We would probably rip whoever was coach. I always wondered why Silas didn't get a shot.

Silas' record really isn't that great, he's barely over .500 IIRC.

Coaching in the NBA is overrated, IMO.

Silas got screwed over by the Suns. Period.

He had remained a loyal assistant and it was well known that he desired to be the head coach eventually...but the Suns just had to skip right past him and hire Danny-boy Ainge after his whole 9 or 10 games of experience as an assistant.

Not really a bright moment for the Suns IMHO.

I've often asked myself the same question - Silas was one of the guys I was hoping JC would consider when he hired Ainge. At that time Silas had only a brief stint as a head coach under his belt but after that he'd stuck with coaching as an assistant, which gave him a lot more preparation than Ainge had for the job. (Or Westfall, Skiles or FJ.) Besides he wasn't a guard and I thought he might bring some seriousness to 'fixing the paint', as we long suffering Suns' fans chanted for years.

Who's to say how much we'd rag on Silas... I'm sure he wouldn't do everything we thought was best. From the little I've seen of his teams they seem quite well prepared, something I've never heard anyone impute to the Suns under FJ. The Hornets personnel decisions have been sound - and don't forget Shinn, the owner of the team, is about on a par with Donald Sterling. I guess you'd have to say firing Silas was the kind of decision Shinn makes when left to his own devices.

I think that coaching in the NBA is very much a factor especially in the playoffs when you must make adjustments. Playoff time is when a coach earns his keep.
