Apparently, ESPN thinks we're one of the "losers" in the first-round

Despite their own admission that we may have picked the next Charles Woodson

3. The NFC West outside of St. Louis: Listen, we're not debating the values of cornerback Patrick Peterson going to Arizona or linebacker Aldon Smith going to San Francisco. Peterson could be the next Charles Woodson. The 49ers desperately need pass-rushing help. The Seahawks stunned everyone by taking offensive tackle James Carpenter. But the division didn't take a quarterback in the first round. That's the knock. I know the 49ers are going to re-sign Alex Smith and the Cardinals might add Marc Bulger. But in a quarterback-driven league, to see three NFC West teams in desperate need of quarterbacks pass on the position is still stunning. At the moment, Sam Bradford of the Rams is the division's only legit starter.

Boy, is this a crock. We go against everybody's grain because we have holes at QB and OL and didnt address them very early? How about the fact that the Cardinals decided not to panic and reach for players or gamble. Peterson arguably was the best player in this season's draft and when that person is sitting in your lap, you take him and then figure out what to do next.

We have roughly six more picks left in this draft to start addressing needs and the QB hole will likely be plugged by a veteran.

If the Cards, 49ers and Seahawks had drafted a QB Sam Bradford would still be the only legit starter in the division.

Cam Newton was the only QB in the draft that would have been worthy and none of these teams were in a position to draft him.

In a van...down by the river.
Yeah, even as a Rams fan i call BS on this blurb.
AZ,SF & SEA were smart for not reaching for QB help in the 1st rd.

-AZ made the right pick(not just sayin that bcuz im in here either)...they didn't panic and got VALUE on defense.
-SF might have reached a bit A.Smith....im thinking he's a better fit in a 4-3.....but still a potentially explosive pass rusher with a high ceiling.
-SEA whiffed badly IMO....and i'm gonna go ahead and LOL.

Everyone in the world knows QB is our biggest position of need. A guy worthy of the #5 pick was there for us to pick and we passed. What else did you expect ESPN to think?

ESPN is pissed we passed on Gabbert. That and ESPN typically knows very little about teams' roster needs. Despite what all the pundits say the Cards were thin at CB, especially play makers. This was a terrific move and the fact ESPN doesn't like it tells me it was the right move even more.

I love Peterson. He is smooth, big and can cover. The Cardinals can pair him with Cromartie to form a heck of a cover combination.

CZAR'S FRONT OFFICE TAKE: In John Skelton, the Cardinals already have a young quarterback, and that’s why LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson made perfect sense. Peterson is a highly-competitive person and a multi-dimensional player in that he’s a solid cover cornerback and the best returner in the draft. So how do the Cardinals appease receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who is in the final year of his contract? Well, there’s no question that coach Ken Whisenhunt wanted to get ex-Rams quarterback Marc Bulger before last season when management wasted money on Derek Anderson. Now there’s a could chance that Bulger, who was a Baltimore backup last year, could end up in Arizona once the free-agency period starts. Peterson will be tough on Sam Bradford and whoever quarterbacks the 49ers.
CAPLAN'S ANALYSIS: The Cardinals probably weren’t counting on Peterson being available with their first-round pick, but they made the smart selection with this talented defensive back. He’ll play cornerback, but Peterson is capable of lining up in the slot or even at free safety because of his athleticism. With Peterson in the fold, the Cardinals can look to draft a few pass rushers with their next few selections.

It's gonna be Bulger, Palmer or Kolb homie.

The Cards have no other plans than Bulger.

Kipper is pissed we passed on his boy Gabbert. That and ESPN typically knows very little about teams' roster needs. Despite what all the pundits say the Cards were thin at CB, especially play makers. If we are 'thin' at CB, then what are we at QB?

We have no legitimate QB, but was Gabbert really worth the risk? Look at how well every other Cardinals draft turned out when they passed BPA and drafted for need. Levi over Peterson comes to mind.

1st round QBs have hit at nearly a 50% rate this past decade, so yes.

Please don't compare Levi/Peterson to this draft, it's not even close to being the same.

Bulger is not good but he's most likely better than every QB in this class combined. I'd rather take him than waste a pick on Gabbert or any of the nonchalant QBs in this draft class..

Desperate. Cards are mirroring the Dolphins, picking up QBs off of the junk pile and wishing for a miracle. Even when they took Leinart, he was so full of warts he could have been a poster boy for Compound W.

Good Solid Pick, I had a feeling Miller would not be there. Screw those losers at ESPN, Gruden seemed to like our pick though!

Successful Cardinal QBs since the merger:

Kurt Warner Free Agent Originally UDFA
Jim Hart UDFA
Neil Lomax 2nd Round
Jake Plummer 2nd Round

Cardinal first round QBs since the AFL/NFL merger:

Steve Pisarkiewicz
Kelly Stouffer
Matt Leinart

100% failure rate

So I wouldn't be too concerned if the Cards took Dalton or Special K in the second round. Though like many others I prefer the pass rusher there.

There, fixed it for you. You have no idea if he'll be any good. You have an opinion on the subject. I think he'll suck. Should I proclaim that he'll suck beyond a shadow of a doubt? No, it's only my opinion.

ESPN are a bunch of jagoffs. Another good reason to watch the NFL Network's coverage.

Maybe what all the dudes of the NFL Network thought? None of them seemed to have a problem with the Cardinals passing on a guy who several teams in need of a QB passed on. A guy who was drafted after Locker. A guy who may be Claussen with a personality. Okay, that last line was a joke. :)

I watched NFLN and they had some issue with them us taking Gabbert too. They were shocked that we didn't, even though we got a great player.

I didn't catch the shock. I definitely didn't notice any same old cardinals smirks like I have seen in the past. I found it telling that Harbaugh and Shanahan passed on him.
