Just got an alert on my phone:

Suns: Archie Goodwin Charged with Disorderly Conduct following arrest on May 4th in Arkansas.

Uh oh.

Well... at least disorderly conduct is about the most benign thing one can get arrested for.

IMO, the resisting arrest is the worst part of it.

Ironic, cussing on the basketball court may or may not get one a T or ejected. But here, you get taken into custody. I would have been pissed off about it too.

This is what happens when you're young, have nothing to do and a bunch of money in the bank. He needs to be in a gym somewhere learning to shoot the ball.

He was leaving an ice rink at 11pm, not loaded coming back from a club at 3am. I can't say what happened one way or another but Goodwin has no history of off court problems as far as I know so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Meh. Until he starts getting pulled over for DUIs or testing positive for the Mary Jane I'll worry a bit.

I am glad I don't live in USA. I would probably in a jail cell for cussing every week.

From what I read he didn't get arrested for cussing he got arrested because the cop warned him repeatedly to knock it off and he kept going. Not a huge thing but it may be a sign of an entitlement issue.

From the article, what he "kept going" was cussing and gesturing. That seems like a lame reason to be taken into custody. Of course, we don't have all the facts at this point.

Well, until he resisted arrest--then it gets more serious.

Any explanation for the injury? Looks like he was beat up. Right now, I think I am with Archie on this, there is more to this story.

If a cop was there trying to keep the peace and repeatedly told Goodwin to knock it off and Goodwin kept cussing and gesturing then it is perfectly acceptable for the cop to take him into custody. It doesn't really matter what happened before the cop got there or what was done or said to Goodwin before hand.

Actually, whether it is appropriate depends on the circumstances. Cussing and gesturing is not in and of itself a crime. And according to the reports, the cop asked him to stop "twice".

unless you know the laws of the particular jurisdiction you're possibly, and probably, wrong. many cities have anti-profanity and anti-inflammatory laws. so it's likely that both elements ARE crimes. i'm not saying 100% because i really don't feel the need to do the research, but it's fairly common.

IMO, it was his not responding to the directions of the police officer that led to the Disorderly Conduct charge. If a person's behavior is considered to be causing a disturbance a police officer can tell that person to stop that behavior. If the person does not obey, there lies the Disorderly Conduct. Then Resisting Arrest just adds to the problem.
