Just wondering what kind of financial coup the Cardinals are making from the Fiesta and BCS Bowl games being held in "their" stadium? Do they get concessions, part of the gate, parking? Anyone know?

about $100 million in contributions to the building of the stadium.

Don't quote me.

Well, the stadium is owned and operated by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority and not the team. While they profit from naming rights, I'm not sure what, if anything, they earn from other events.

Zero, thats what they get. They are the main tenants and that allows privledge ie; naming rights. They get nothing from anyother events that take place inside the building.

I suppose they may benefit indirectly....but not much..I am sure the University of PHoenix factored into their monetary offer for naming rights the fact that they would get a coverage from the bowl games....but I doubt it was a big part of their decision as it is only one game a year and then the biggie every four years (like tonight).....but I have heard or seen their name a ton tonight....the UOP....so maybe their offer was slightly higher on their naming rights to the Cardinals due to a little more exposure...

I thought they owned all the concession stands. I could be wrong, but ins't that one of Bill Sr's most profitable business ventures.

Bidwill and Junker's animosity dates back to 1999, when both were pushing for a stadium to be built at the Rio Salado project in Tempe, very close to Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport. The bid was denied based on FAA recommendations that the new stadium would be too close to the airport, but the Fiesta Bowl alleged that Bidwill and the Cardinals tried to squeeze them. Because the Cardinals and the Fiesta Bowl game were sharing the same venue, Sun Devil Stadium, which belongs to Arizona State University, Bowl officials took the Cardinals to the Arizona legislature to prevent the Cardinals from making profits off of Fiesta Bowl games. Despite Michael Bidwill and the Cardinals' organization's fight at the statehouse, the Cardinals lost. That and the fact that the FAA had recommended for a new stadium not to be built where the Cardinals wanted it, pushed Bidwill to pursue the city of Glendale to build a new stadium for the Cardinals. Having agreed to make a coliseum for the NHL's Coyotes and for boxing events, the city of Glendale accepted, and construction of the $370.6 million dollars stadium began almost immediately. It is scheduled to open in 2006.

I am not sure the chronology of dates on Wikipedia is exactly accurate... I think after the site in Tempe was turned down...the Cardinals and ASU went at it in court...something about signage, signage revenue, etc at Sun Devil stadiu....I think the Cardinals actually won this dispute..not sure...but I think they got a little $$ from ASU because ASU was in breach of some of their original contract regarding revenue sharing, etc....

Then...in like early 2006...when Glendale was almost finished..the Cardinals and The Fiesta Bowl went at it...something about the Cardinals would not allow the Fiesta bowl to cover up any of the Cardinals signage, etc.....and the Cardinals lost this round...Fiesta Bowl won this one. I think the Fiesta Bowl and Cardinals had a pretty good working relationship up until about a year or year and half ago....based on media reports - it appears this issue was one that was to be resolved at a later date..and the Fiesta Bowl thought the Cardinals were being unreasonable..and either the TSA, a Judge or the Legislature sided with the Fiesta Bowl..not sure who the governing party was...

my 2 cents..obviously...

The written version on wikipedia is a little vague...I love wikipedia and use it like daily...but their accuracy is not always 100%...it is mostly compiled by readers...so things are not always excty correct...

The Cards get 100% of revenues from all NFL games and NFL related events. And, all naming rights revenue. They get nothing from the Fiesta Bowl or TSA events (like the high school championships). Still, they are making a killing compared to SDS. Remember, they actually broke even or made a profit in SDS more often than they lost money.

All the financial agreements are on the TSA website.
