Are there still medical concerns for Tim Patrick after a healthy bounceback year?

Sometimes picking up injured players fails miserably. Sometimes, it is rewarded handsomely. Signing Tim Patrick last August is an example of the latter. The reason he was available last offseason was likely because he had missed two straight seasons due to severe injuries.

INJURY HISTORY

  • 2024: Played 17 of 18 games. The only game he didn't play was the first game of the season, while he was still on Detroit's practice squad. Finished with 34 receptions for 416 yards (including playoffs)

  • 2023: Achilles tear. Missed entire year.

  • 2022: ACL tear. Missed entire year.

ANY CONCERNS GOING FORWARD?

Two straight years of major injuries raises the concern whether his ligaments and tendons can hold up in the long run. After an entirely healthy season, those concerns are alleviated but not eliminated. He will turn 32 midway through the year (November 23) which is a factor also.

OUTLOOK

Patrick was the third-leading WR on the team behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. Expect him to continue smoothly in this role for 2025. In the draft, the Lions may look to draft a big-bodied WR as a long-term replacement, but more urgent needs on defense could preclude that.
