I think what hurts him is that Arizona had a good defense last year as well. It's not like he took a defense that was really bad and made them better, he will be viewed as taking a good defense and maintaining it. I think he will need to show he can do it for more than one year before he gets a HC position.

Sheesh.

He will be viewed as taking and average defense and making it the best in the NFL.

The defense was better than average last year and is very good but is not statistically the best in the NFL. Don't get me wrong, I think Bowles has done a wonderful job but I don't believe he is going to be first in line for Head Coaching jobs quite yet.

It's ridiculous to worry about Todd.

I like him but come on, he's not that great he has great players. He's just smart enough to play them reasonably like they should be played.

He's not someone who's leaving will devastate the organization. Gives us a chance to find a coach who knows how to stop a Tight End.

Without that we're not going anywhere anyhow.

We are in a lot of danger of losing him but the good thing is that the NFL today is so offense-oreinted that many teams will only want an offensive head coach and won't even consider Bowles for the job. Just have to hope for the best.

Excellent point. 7 of the 8 Coaches hired by the NFL in January 2013 came from the offensive side of the ball. 15 of 23 over the last 3 seasons. It's an offensive league.

As for Horton the guy just can't catch a break. His Defense is ranked 6th in Net Yards per attempt passing and YPA rushing and once again his team has lost 11 games.

While NFL offenses are putting up record breaking results , it also seems that teams with great defenses are having the most success: the Ravens and 9ers played in the Super Bowl last year. This season, look at Seattle, the 9ers, the Cardinals, the Panthers... Great defenses are still worth pursuing and if you can match a great defense with a great QB, you just might be wearing a Super Bowl ring one day.

i think that really is the bottom line. Horton was replaced and so can Bowles. This defense is really good and its not the DC but the players.

That is important to remember. There was lots of criticism with Arians making him DC. I think he will get interviews because of the Rooney Rule but not sure if he will get any offers this year. May need several years as DC before someone give him the HC position.

Great points. If he interviews very well however we could lose him this year.

I agree with this with a caveat. I think he has done more than maintain it but that could be a bit subjective. Our Offense hasn't been great but it has given this years D far more help than the last 3 years so that has helped the D this year.

That's the hope, Owners and GM's are still thinking they need Offensive HC's.

Horton's D is not doing well at all with Points per game allowed. I don't watch any Browns games so I'm not sure how much of that has to do with the TO's from the O.

Very good counter point, hopefully you are ahead of the curve and Owners are still thinking O is the way to go. I also think in most markets a great Offense sells more tickets etc than a great Defense. That could be a tipping point for Owners to go Offense with their HC hire.

Keep in mind that 7 of the 8 new head coaches hired this season are offensive-minded guys.
