I like Pat P but he strikes me as extremely thin skinned. I’m guessing this is much ado about nothing. I can picture him over hearing Steve Keim saying to KK “no, don’t call Pat to ask him to come in for OTA’s, we don’t want to bother his majesty” and Pat reacting the way he did. Or maybe Pat freaked out about the errant report of being traded to the Chiefs and feels stupid so he’s laying low.

I am in the minority, but I would just sign him to an extension. He wants guaranteed money, we will just waste it on dead money anyway. He wants to be paid like his play warrants...how many top end guys do we really have to pay? We all know his comp is Charles Woodson, and we have the ability to move him to S if his play at CB declines at the end of the next contract.

The last thing you can afford is to have this type of crap when it is win or everybody gets fired mode.

Thorough out the history of the team, the Cardinals have had a history of screwing over veterans and letting great players walk. Signing Peterson NOW and not letting him leave would be a tremendous gesture to change this narrative about the team.

I agree, sign him now so you can spread the cap hit.

he has two years left, standard would be to extend him end of season rather than now.

I can see it but ultimately, I dont think it is necessary. He is already top 4 at his position and making good money this year.
He obviously disagrees with you, that is the point. We may think it is a fair deal, but he doesn't, and that is what matters. What is the point of having a QB on a rookie deal if we are not going to sign great players to fill out the roster with talent. We can afford to bump his deal the 3 or 4 mil per year that he wants.

100% this. Hs one of the best players in the league at one of the most valuable positions and he has been since he was drafted. You don’t replace players like Patrick with a couple of draft picks.

According to all reports out there, his tirade had nothing to do with money.

Never said we should, said he should get extended next year before he plays a down in the final year of his current deal.

He was made some promises last season which he doesn't have been followed through on. Making him the highest paid CB in the NFL two years prior to his contract expiring would go a long way with that.

Sadly the Cards have a history of jettisoning players who are close to or at their career end Peterson is Not One of them but if someone offered say next years round 1 thru 7 round draft picks it sure would be worth listening to at the least

My "standard" is different for future Hall of Famers.
Also.... usually the back half of contracts balloon. Accelerate the conversation by showing him how much we value him.

Plus, the added benefit of being cheaper over the long run!

the Braves in the MLB are doing this wonderfully with some of their youngest players. being pro-active is the way to go IMO

Barring some insane, unimaginable offer, there should be zero consideration for trading Patrick Peterson. The fact that fans need to be constantly reminded of this is frankly embarrassing.
Cards have this nasty habit of eating their young (i.e. trading away or releasing their most talented. players).

We shouldn't have let Mathieu get away...Or Calais...Or now PP21. It's a fast way of keeping your roster mediocre. We work so hard to acquire elite talent and then let good players leave way too easily.

Honey badger was a shell of himself, not worth big money and it was what it was. Then, he took less money to play elsewhere. To blame the org for him is silly. Calais too, we made an offer, he got mroe from jacksonville. Paying out the nose for players who arent worth it is not how you build a successful team.

Peterson is different.

To clarify a tweet from earlier. When I asked Kliff Kingsbury about Patrick Peterson and whether he expects to see him when the team begins its OTAs, the coach said this, exactly: “I’m not sure about OTAs. Everything is voluntary."

Good one. So-o-o...Any proof?
Read how Keim treated Rosen. He isn't a guy who you can trust as a player. So when a guy asks to be traded, has a meeting, and then apologizes for asking, obviously promises were made. Later, when that same player lashes out, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out those promises were not kept.

Keim doesn't recognize that his name is at the bottom of the old accountability board.

Promises were'nt necessarily made.

But reminders were definately made that he's a captain and needed to act like one. That was a dereliction on Petersons part and showed a lack of character in itself at the time. This one isn't all on the FO.
