Easily understand why everyone is so worried. But I would be more worried if we blew the Packers out for the same score.
Had that of happened, I think there would be a lot of outcry here that we played our starters way too long or that we opened up the playbook too wide, setting ourselves up for disappointment next week.
That's exactly what Green Bay did today.
Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Grant were in there for a long time as were Jennings and Driver. Many of their defensive players, mainly their linebackers, played significant minutes.
The play calling for the Packers seemed very aggressive, like they were playing for a playoff spot, which they already had. I was astounded with all of the blitz packages and pass routes they were running. In contrast, our approach was very vanilla. We were running basic routes for example, the many check downs that were run. Also, many of our defensive players were quickly yanked in the first quarter. I was concerned when I saw Ryan Grant carving up our defense, until I realized that he was going up against the likes of Beisel and Walker.
The only thing that really concerns me are the injuries to DRC, Boldin and CC. It doesnt look like CC is going to play, unless they heavily cast his thumb. It seems like DRC and Boldin will each play, but their performance will have to be monitored.
Because Green Bay played their starters for a while and opened up the playbook on us, it gives Whis and Co. plenty of film to study. Whis admitted as much in a post game interview on the radio and sounded calm and collected about the situation. I think he is happy that the game played out the way it did. Im sure he is going to use this not only as a learning tool, but also as a motivational tool. He'll probably play on the players' emotions a bit, especially on the fact that they got embarrassed. Also, you have to believe that the Packers will approach next weeks game a little overconfident.
Honestly, there would be much more upheaval if we blew them out. This was clearly treated like a preseason game and only fools would tip their cards in a poker game.
