Apr. 9—LAKE ANDES, S.D. — It was a dominant showing from the Burke girls track and field team at the South Central Conference meet in Lake Andes on Tuesday.
The Cougars claimed 12 out of 18 total events on the girls varsity side at the meet. No team scores were kept.
Three Cougars won multiple individual events. Emily Diekmann took home the 200-meter run (28.43) and high jump (5 feet, 2 inches) titles. Daytona Paris won the 100-meter hurdles (18.14) and the triple jump (32 feet, 8 inches). Paige Bull won two of the three throwing events with top finishes in the shot put (36 feet, 6.75 inches) and discus (133 feet, 11 inches).
Burke also picked up two more individual victories from Braelyn Duerfeldt in the 100-meter run (13.86) and Addi Hood in the 300-meter hurdles (52.50). However, no other runners participated in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Cougars won all four girls relay events. Duerfeldt, Hood, Brylie Pistulka and Breckynn Pistulka ran the 4x100 (53.54). Hood, Deikmann, Duerfeldt and Breckynn Pistulka ran the 4x200 (1:51.69). Both Pistulkas, Sophia Bauld and Paris ran the 4x400 (4:25.59). Finally, Bauld, Taylor Zeisler, Emmy Spencer and Kailee Frank ran the 4x800 (10:48.85).
Platte-Geddes' Taylor Schrank won the 400-meter (1:04.21) and the 800-meter run (2:41.37) titles.
Area boys athletes posted multiple victories as well. Kimball/White Lake's Lincoln Kranig won the 100-meter (11.56) and the 200-meter run (22:64). Also from KWL, Park Sinclair won the 1,600-meter (4:51.52) and 3,200-meter run (10:42.33). Andes Central/Dakota Christian's AJ Johnson took home both the shot put (44 feet, 8.5 inches) and discus (124 feet, 1 inch) titles.
Platte-Geddes' Quincy Stephens took home the 400-meter run (52.66). Gregory's Finn Adams won the 800-meter run (2:06.21) and teammate Colt Keiser won the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches). All three were part of relay victories as well. The team of Stephens, Braxton Breukelman, Hayden Sprik and Carson Vanden Berge took home the 4x100-meter relay (44.30) and 4x200-meter relay (1:33.83) titles for the Black Panthers. The team of Keiser, Adams, Pierce Stukel and Max Cook won the 4x400-meter relay (3:36.68) for the Gorillas.
SCOTLAND, S.D. — Seven area teams were in action on at the Gary Pepper Memorial meet in Scotland on Tuesday, April 8.
While no team scores were kept, hosts Scotland/Menno posted strong showings on both the girls and boys sides. For the boys, Bryce Sattler claimed three victories, his lone individual coming in the 400-meter run (55.17). He was a leg in both the 4x400-meter relay (3:49.68) and the 4x800-meter relay (9:25.11) with teammates Mirik Vaith, CJ Bjorum and Izayah Ulmer.
For the Trappers, Zoe Schaeffer claimed the 3,200-meter girls run title (12:37.67). Trinity Bietz and Kylie Guthmiller combined to win all three throwing events. Bietz claimed the shot put (35 feet, 6.5 inches) and discus (114 feet, 1 inch) titles and finished second to Guthmiller in the javelin (108 feet, 11 inches).
Other area squads claimed event victories as well. Freeman Academy/Marion's Finley McConniel won both the boys 800-meter run (2:08.79) and 3,200-meter run (10:43.94). Bon Homme's Ethan Wagner won the triple jump title (38 feet, 3 inches) and the group of Jackson Cedarface, Lucas Saxton, Austin Rose and Sam Byers won the 1,600-meter medley relay (4:05.09) for Chamberlain.
The Cubs picked up two other girls individual victories. Kylah Biggins won the 800-meter run (2:37.05) and Grace Phillips was the top finisher in the 1,600-meter run (5:43.90). The team of Paige Timmermans, Sophie DeLange, Hadynn Johnson and Braylee Bordewyk won the Split Medley 1,600-meter relay (4:39.61) for Corsica-Stickney.
PIERRE — The Lyman track and field team posted multiple event victories at the Bob Judson Invitational in Pierre on Tuesday.
Aksel Ehlers was the lone Raiders outright victor, claiming the pole vault title (11 feet, 6 inches). Dawsen Volmer also tied for first in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).
On the girls side, Brooke Montgomery and Addy Moran posted individual top-three finishes. Montgomery finished second in the 100-meter run (12.63) and Moran finished third in the discus (85 feet, 7 inches.)
The Raiders had multiple relay placements as well. The team of Montgomery, Jordyn Scott, Bree Smart and Claire Griffith took home the 4x200-meter relay title (1:53.98). Montgomery, Scott, Smart and Kenzie Wagner finished second in the split medley 1,600-meter relay (4:45.83).
FLANDREAU, S.D. — The Howard track and field team was also in action at the Barnes Evans Relays meet in Flandreau on Tuesday.
Melanie Calmus was the Tigers' top athlete, claiming an individual victory and two runner-up finishes. She won the girls long jump (15 feet, 4.5 inches) and finished second in both the 100-meter (12.92) and 200-meter run (27.49).
Also on the girls side, Briella Wettlaufer finished second in the 3,200-meter run (13.09.63) and Ellie Becker finished third in the 800-meter run (2:43.44). The team of Becker, Anna Becker, Hannah Brown and Ann Connor also took third place in the 4x800-meter relay (11:18.08).
On the boys side, Caden Schwader was the only Tiger to claim a top-three finish. He came in second in the 3,200-meter (11:46.81) and third in the 1,600-meter run (5:17.03).
