Wow! This could be the end for Williams.

Arians: "Needs to start playing. Can't evaluate him unless you play."

running backs just don't come back from that type of injury...at least the overwhelming majority of them don't.

can't believe last year's band of idiots depended on Beanie who apparently had micorfracture and Williams who had what more often then not is a career killing injury for RBs.

No coincidence. I can't remember a player going from god status to flop by the fans this quickly.. People were convinced he was going to be something special. Now, he's expendable because he can't get on the field.

I didn't like the pick at the time because I felt there were more pressing needs than RB at the time. However, I still felt he had talent prior to the knee injury. Still, he's occupying a precious roster spot that a healthy, hungry bubble player would love to have. Keim needs to purge him from the roster like he did other liabilities.

Short term IR is my guess.

(It costs a million to keep him, a million to drop him)

Don't believe it costs anything to drop him. It's a cap hold of some $800K, but why pay him even that if he's not going to be able to contribute?

And once you put someone on the short-term IR (IR - Designated to return), then you can't put anyone else on it. I'd rather save that spot for a player that I believe can be good at football.

I still like his potential over smith but he doesn't play special teams and doesn't even play.. Hope he can that 4th game and light it up.

When are you posters going to start listening to me about traditions and jinxes and luck (and I don't mean Andrew)????

I told you he was doomed as soon as the Cards took him in the 2nd round. Just like every other 2nd round RB for the last 50 years. :bang:

:stick:

He may not even be eligiable at this point. I am not sure what they consider 'major injury', but since his happened last year and was able to practice all offseason and for the first few days of camp, he may not qualify. He gets cut next Monday IMO.

The "designated to return" rule is new to the NFL this season. Teams can slap it on one player who's suffered a "major injury," defined as one keeping a player out for six weeks or more.

Well, it's the choice they'll have to make.

Judging from the quote, I can't see an issue.

It would be the "major injury." Williams has been cleared to practice by team doctors. The NFL frowns on "stashing" players with non-season-ending injuries on IR instead of letting them hit the waiver wire.
