Im not going to let ASUCHRIS off easy because it appears that he's never used a dictionary in his life. The word "excel" means to surpass; be superior to; outdo. Not just a Microsoft application my friend. See dictionary.com if you don't believe me. I could also use the words "exceed" or "supplant" if it makes you feel any better. Need I go further or have I thoroughly embarrassed you enough?

Anyways, I figured I'd strike a few nerves posting the ugly truths about ASU academics. But remember that one of your cohorts started this tirade by bashing one of my friend's academic prowess (you can thank Beaver for that). To me, an ASU student should not evaluate someones academic status without first evaluating his own.

And for those who are trying to compare ASU to UofA, listen to this. Your school has been doing this for way too long. It has become clockwork to hear someone from ASU say that their education is just as good as an education from UofA. But the old saying goes that the harder you try to compare yourself to or put yourself on the same level as another, the more you are admitting your short comings.

And how can facts be delusional? I don't get it. Maybe you can explain that one to me without skewing them in your favor.

Nasser22, I'm glad you are proud of going to ASU. You should be. More people either choose to go into the work force straight from high school or drop out and I feel that they are selling themselves short. But you have to understand the stigma that has carried over for years at ASU. I'll give you this much: ASU has gone from a third-tier university to a second-tier according to many publications. So while I admit that ASU is on the right track, I don't think it is a logical argument to try and compare your school to ours. Maybe in a few years.

I will get off my soap box now. Have a nice day!

Thanks so much Teej! I was positive that the word was only associated with Microsoft Office, I'm glad you were able to clarify that. Since we've never had dictionaries at ASU, I'll have to take your word for it.

"I'm not saying that UofA is going to excel Princeton anytime soon"

You must realize this statement does not make sense in common usage and is incredibly awkward. How many times have you heard someone say that they excel something else? Most people excel "at" something, which is by far the most common usage. You seem to confuse excel with a word like surpass, supersede or outdo, which would be a much more appropriate choice.

Unfortunately, we're quibbling over semantics here. That was minor stupidity, your claim U of A being "Public Ivy" is the most myopic and ridiculous thing I've seen in a long time. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. I've had some friends jokingly refer to U of A or ASU as the Harvard of the west, completely in jest, but you're the first person I've ever heard buy into it.

"And for those who are trying to compare ASU to UofA, listen to this. Your school has been doing this for way too long. LOL! Thanks for putting ASU grads in their place, you really know how to lay down the law. Assuming your ******** wannabe Freud psycho-babble is true, what does that say about you comparing U of A to Cal, UCLA, Michigan and William and Mary? Your short comings must be enormous!

Bro, the only one you've embarrassed here is yourself. I can go back and forth in good nature with Mao, AF, and some of the more intelligent U of A fans, but your delusions aren't even worth responding to.

For some bizarre reason, (superiority complex?) there are certain members of both schools that keep deluding themselves that there is a major difference between the schools, but anyone not drunk off their asses with ASU or U of A kool-aid should be intelligent enough to figure that out. I'm happy to see what side of the fence you sit on, it'll help me to avoid further arguments with a fool. Keep digging though!

Granted, but resumes can be fudged and interviews can be BS'd. Kids who choose to spend 25k annually of their parents money or student loans on ASU when there's better or comparable options in their own state generally aren't good decision-makers. This only applies to out of state people though, I won't begrudge anyone choosing ASU that stays in-state.

...I mean, granted in some cases (I went to ASU and there were those people that you mentioned, but they didn't last anyway) but to say the majority of people who choose ASU when there are better "options" is a knock on their character is ludicrious....

Many of my friends who chose ASU from out of state did so for a multiutde of reasons, and did not do so because they were "wasting their parents money"...

What if someone went to Washington? Or Michigan? or Florida St? and they were from SoCal, would that be a knock against their charactor too? or is it just because ASU is subpar?
