I don't remember specifics, but we never beat a .500 team, and the winning % of our opponents was the lowest in NFL history for a wildcard team.

We should have easily won 11-12 games that year given the schedule but we turned the ball over so much we cost ourselves some games.

Still winning a playoff game on the road, with a 2nd year QB, is pretty damn impressive.

Russ your such a buzz kill :p

Gene Stallings was the best coach IMO. Left because of money/control dispute with Mr. B.

Sorry, but I crack up every time I hear the "Bugel had 'em turning the corner." line. Puh-lease, his teams were very ill-prepared and undisciplined. He and Mac are cut out of the same "aw shucks" "boy howdy" cloth. He had 'em turning a corner all right...into a train wreck. LOL

But, we all have our own opinions and Buges was/is a good guy. So, I'm not bagging on you Bugelistas, just expressing my own opinion :)

Bugel had the offense turned around, but not the defense. Buddy came in and broke the offense, fixed the defense, and then broke the defense too.

:D From a long time "Card" fan, None of the above also. For the younger fans, the "Air Coryell Era" was really something, no Defense, but man could we put points on the board.

Bugel

Trw, I agree I never was a huge Bugel fan. He did a terrible job with the 93 team. The offense did fairly decent , but Fritz "Big Nickel" Schurmer didn't even have the good sense to play his best player on every down. Ken Harvey was used primarily at DE on third downs due to the "Big Nickel" having two linebackers(Stowe, and Hill). Remember the 93 team had to win 3 out of the final 4 games to finish 7-9. He had five years to get the program turned around and in 93 lost at home to a New England team that was 0-4 and had won 1 game the previous season. He was a failure in Oakland too. At now time, in six years as head coach, did a Joe Bugel team ever win more than 7 games. I feel that Bugel gets the same kind of free pass that Mac was offered. He's clueless as a head coach, but he is a nice guy, so therefore let's keep him around. Although Bugel was a great OL coach; I still am wondering what Mac could coach.

The best coaches the Cards have had in Arizona based on resume in my opinion are Stallings, Ryan, and then Green. Stallings should have never been fired and in my opinion was the best coach the Cards have had since Coryell.
Buddy and Dennis Green are very similar. Big Ego, successful track record at other programs, progress in first year and then a dismal second year. I always kinda liked Buddy, but he did wreck the offense when he hired Dave Atkins. Atkins gets a tie as worst OC in Arizona Cardinal history with Tobin's boy Dick Jamieson. Buddy assembled the best defensive staff in Cardinal history.
DL- Rex Ryan - DC Baltimore
LB- Ted Cotrell- DC Minnesota
DB- Rob Ryan-DC Oakland
Russ, What is that status of Rob Ryan in Oakland? I hear that he is no longer allowed to talk to the media. I am shocked that that team has not improved more on the defensive side of the ball. He took over a team from Breshnahan(Currently with Cincy as DC) ranked 31st and now Oakland is ranked 19th, but the defensive has been shaky in key situations this year. He has improved the D, but not nearly as I had expected. Will Turner and the entire staff be let go at the end of the year? The reason I ask is that I coach football at the high school varsity level. I once had the opportunity to listen to Rob Ryan give an impassioned seminar about the "46" defense. That seminar was the best demonstration I have ever seen in 10 years of coaching at the varsity level. Buddy may have been a horse's rear, but both of his sons can flat out coach.
