Another series has begun. The D-backs loaded the bases in the 1st (the last on a hit batsman) and scored one run on a walk, leaving the bases loaded.

They have not gotten a hit since then, and it is now top of the 5th. And Greinke has given up a 2-run HR and a solo HR. 3-1 Brewers.

UPDATES: A solo HR by Lamb. Now 3-2 in the top of the 6th. And another HR given up by Greinke. 4-2 Brew Crew in the bottom of the 6th.

Who used that analogy of "Smoke & Mirrors", couldn't be more right. Even when we were doing good I thought the same thing.

I can't watch this team anymore.
Unfortunately, it's like watching the Suns all season. It did get them the #1 draft pick for the only time in their 50 year history. But it was not fun to watch.

And the D-backs lose 4-2. With no pinch hitters in the 9th for the weak hitters. And no cause to lose.

With Ahmed's inability to hit RH pitchers and a natural SS playing out of position at 2B, I don't understand how Lovullo can leave the LH hitting Descalso sitting on the bench.

Descalso has been our best, only and hottest hitter. I don't know what Lovullo's obsession with Ahmed is, but he should be nothing more than a platoon SS starting vs. lefties.

We have hitters who aren’t weak? Oh yeah, Greinke and Corbin.

All true. But it is sad our best hitter is in the .250 range. Says a lot about our team. One more time, smoke and mirrors.

I really dont seem them getting out of this funk anytime soon. Amazes me how bad they are. Lost 11 of their last 12.

unwatchable, this team is unwatchable currently. At this point I am more excited to hopefully see the Doyers collapse than I am watching the D-backs.

Granted, injuries are largely responsible for the D-backs weak hitting.

But so are the decisions to keep their weakest hitting Catcher as the lead and their best hitting Catcher as #3 ... and ... keep Ahmed at SS full time, forcing Descalso to the bench when Lamb returned, instead of moving Marte to a 2B-SS platoon.

And having weak hitting backups in the outfield. And overusing the Beard. And not giving Goldy a rest or identifying his problems. Or the team's inability to hit fastballs. Or sticking to that "lift" batting philosophy when his roster isn't suited to it.

It seems that Lovullo is inflexible in his management style. I am not suggesting that he shake things up every day. But to do the same thing over and over and expect different results ... well, we keep seeing the same results. And they're pathetic.

What is this thing with D-backs managers who win Manager of the Year, then nosedive? Melvin, Gibson and now Lovullo?

And what is the GM doing to build a better roster? We knew that not re-signing JD Martinez, who wanted to stay, was going to take us down.

Here is a great article about JD and how Pollock was involved. Unfortunately, Boston is benefitting from it.

I am glad to see that Descalso is starting at 2B with Marte at SS in Game 2. Now if only we could see it against all righty starters. Ahmed cannot hit righties.

And Avila is still the lead Catcher. Yes, he's a lefty but he is a strikeout king. We need hitting. We need Murphy. And he is as good defensively as any of our three Catchers.

So, as bad as Tomas is in the field, when is he brought up? We need a bat, any bat, even Tomas for a spell. We have to do something. Can’t believe I just typed that.

I've thought about that, too. And can't believe I just typed that as well. :)

A right fielder could mess up, what, one or two plays a game. A weak heater could mess up four at bats.

UPDATE -- Power hitting outfielder Socrates Brito just up from the Minors with Souza going back on the DL. I had forgotten about him.

I saw that before I posted, which made my post only worse.

Murphy pinch hitting with a runner on and out on a great catch. Still 1-0 Brewers. Murphy staying in the game.

Perhaps he was told to try.

Well, the D-backs were shut out. Even though the home plate ump tried to help them with outrageous calls.

Goldy is done IMO, you could see it last year that he was starting to regress.
