#Dbacks GM Mike Hazen said Club is not close to doing anything but lots of active discussions so things could come together quickly. Probably more likely they sign a free agent reliever before a trade but you never know at these things.

While losing Greinke would kind of suck...his albatross contract is holding the team back from making any moves. He pretty much has to be unloaded...somehow, someway.
How would that change if a huge contract is given to JD? Seem to be trading one albatross for another. Or am I missing something?

JD plays every day compared to every 5 days. Plus, his bat helps Goldy.

JD's contract will definitely be less than Greinke's...probably close to $10M a year in savings, which can be used for other players.

All I’ll say is if Greinke is moved, we’d better get comparable talent in return and re-sign JD; otherwise, we’re no better than the Marlins.

I get that it should help, but it didn't work that way last season.
It certainly did. With the way Jake Lamb fumbled during the second half of the past two seasons, JD's presence at cleanup for the second half of last season did indeed force pitchers to not pitch around Goldy. And that got us into the post-season. If JD had been with us all season (with his combined AL and NL stats), he would have run neck-and-neck with Stanton for NL MVP.

Well @BC867 might've been on to something...
Thanks, Gator. I've truly believed that JD playing everyday is more valuable to the D-backs than Grienke pitching every 5th day. Especially with Grienke's meltdown in the post-season. And with Grienke, at his age, bound to deteriorate to some degree as each season wears on.

Now, from the articles I've seen, there is a glimmer that we might be able to trade Grienke and re-sign JD Martinez. But the chances are slim. Oh well, I'll hope for the best again. Without JD, I would not expect us to be in the playoffs next season.

Poor Mike Hazen. Hard to win at poker when you have no chips. That's the 2017 DBacks.
'Sounds like the D-back have to attract more investors. But then that will cut Sarver's ownership down from his current 30%.

Is he going to let that happen or just, as you say, play with no chips? The answer is clear.

Sarver owns D'Backs, too? Thought he was just Suns.

WOW!! I go back and forth between the D-backs and Suns boards and sometimes they just blend together. :stick:

If the GM says he has "no chips", I guess Kendrick will have to sell his baseball card collection. Or get some new investors.
