Had the D’Backs not signed Tomas we might’ve been able to get Ohtani. We didn’t have the funds or international signing power b/c of it. He wanted to be on the west coast playing for a good team.

ERA is a good guide for relievers who pitch only complete innings.

But it does not reflect those who come in during an inning with runners on base. Even though they are inherited, you expect a reliever to put out the fire.

In their 14-10 win, the Cubs scored 9 runs in the 8th inning against the Braves, all with 2 outs. Only 4 of those runs were scored on hits. Entering today, the Braves' bullpen had an MLB-best 1.34 ERA. Against the Cubs, their bullpen allowed 10 ER in 2 2/3 IP.

Teams like the Marlins trading off all their good players to lower payroll.

Not just the Marlins, but also the other teams in MLB that have not staffed their roster to be post season worthy.

From a rooting perspective, after going through the agony of watching the Suns be non-competitive season after season (yes. I know they're hoping for a draft and a trade that will change that), it is so refreshing to see that the D-backs are not in the same position. It is gratifying to root for them.

The sad part is that we are seeing that sports mimics U.S. society. The fat cats at the top and every one else at the bottom, with the disappearing middle class no longer able to afford to carry the country financially. Families who can no longer afford college for their kids. Young adults who can no longer afford to buy a house.

I don't mean to mix politics and sports, but it looks like the former influences the latter. In retrospect, did it really make sense for MLB to allow the Players' Union to jack up salaries to the point of millions of dollars per year for average players?
