Arrested Development's Fate?

Here's a question for those in the know: If FOX cancels Arrested Development, can another network snatch it up? And if so, why wouldn't they? It has a wildly devoted following and something as simple as a timeslot change could really make a difference, right?

I think the fact that this thread almost fell to the bottom of the page should answer your question on the popularity of that show.

New season starts Sep. 19. Some of the stars of the show were on a recent episode of Celebrity Poker and after he introduced them Dave Foley made a comment about the show nad Jason Bateman made a joke about how he thought they were cancelled.

In response toe the earlier post about if another network could pick it up, I had had heard Comedy Central wanted to pick it up if FOX dropped it.

they dumped the last four episodes on friday...........a sad way to send out such a great show. on the other hand i liked the way the series ended, i guess thay had enough information to realize it was the end so they were able to wrap it up nicely.

Mitch Hurwitz Quits Arrested Development
Source: Variety
March 28, 2006

Variety reports that Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz says he will not be continuing with the series, throwing a major wrench into attempts to keep the Emmy-winning comedy alive for a fourth season.

Series producers 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine Television had agreed on a deal to move "Arrested," previously on Fox, to Showtime -- assuming Hurwitz was willing to come back. In the end, however, a mix of creative and financial concerns has prompted Hurwitz to move on.

Hurwitz said he had briefed most of the show's cast about his decision, as well as some of the writers. He also talked with executive producer-narrator Ron Howard, who asked Hurwitz if he would be willing to continue as a consultant on "Arrested" should 20th and Imagine find a network willing to continue the series without Hurwitz.

"I said I'd be happy to do that, but that as showrunner, I've gone as far as I can go," he said.

Hurwitz hinted that while "Arrested" may have run its course as a TV show as far as he's concerned, he would be interested in reviving the franchise as a feature film.

Yeah, last I heard the creator mentioned above was on board. Looks like this show is finally dead. What a shame.

The curse of Teen Wolf movie stars is among us my friends....

Michael J Fox killed Spin City and Jason Bateman killed Arrested Development.

"Arrested Development," the critically acclaimed but ratings challenged and recently canceled FOX show, is getting new life in syndication -- via three different outlets.

MSN, HDNet and G4 have all acquired the rights to the show online, on hi-def TV and on basic cable, respectively.

"We're thrilled that this groundbreaking, critically-acclaimed show will find an entirely new audience through a variety of complementary platforms - from rich media, to hi-def TV to cable," said Peter Levinsohn, President of Fox Digital Media. "This is the first time a series has been licensed to three platforms simultaneously, a testament to the explosion of the after-market for high-end content. We're actively developing this exciting new arena with partners like MSN, HDNet and G4."

HDNet will begin airing episodes in September, G4 in October, and MSN at some point later this year.
