Both Jon Heyman (SI) and Ken Rosenthal are reporting that the Diamondbacks and Orioles are getting close to a deal that would send Mark Reynolds to the Orioles. It is being speculated that the Diamondbacks would receive pitchers David Hernandez and Kam Mickolio (6'9").

Sounds like Mickolio could be a Broxton type. Hernandez doesn't do much for me. It's clear though this front office is going depth heavy for pitching.

Who do we stick at 3B now?

Best of luck to "The Sheriff" I like him, but his K's and poor average last year made him a major liability. This is addition by subtraction. Not sure who we plug in, but I think Towers has an ides; otherwise, he wouldn't rid of one of the faces of the franchise

Not a horrible deal. Hernandez will be our 8th inning guy and I would imagine Mickolio will the the 7th inning guy. From everything I have read Mickolio has the stuff to become a closer. If we can go out and get JJ Putz or Bobby Jenks for a year or two then I think our bullpen gets a whole lot stronger very quickly. My only concern is who will be our third baseman? Geoff Blum better not start. I have to imagine who Towers has an idea of someone but the only guy I can think of is Melvin Mora who I wouldn't be that thrilled about.

My guess is that a replacement for Reynolds will be one of the recently non-tendered free agent third baseman: Ty Wiggington, Josh Fields, Willie Aybar, Edwin Encarnacion, etc.

Also, Melvin Mora could be of interest to fill the third base opening. Interesting side note to Mora, is that his agent is listed as Lon Babby.

I would love this guy on the team

I'd like Fields or Encarcion, although the latter strikes out a ton and falls away from Arizona's plan to cut down on Ks.

I hate to inform you but Hernandez is the center piece in this deal. Hernandez is the closer of the future. Believe it or not but since he became a reliever, is that his velo is much greater the Mickolio. Mickolio is just big that's all. Pitching in the NL West is only going to make DH that much better. Pitcher friendly parks, no DH, no NY or Bos to face, etc, etc.
