"Whackadoodles.. Bethel, Williams and Mathieu can't play corner. We are smoked...Lattimore should be #1 on our board...We are absolutely desperately in need of...etc etc...

Aaah. Certainty. Passion.

Wisdom? Mmmm...We'll see.

(PS - Maybe the FO has been blowing smoke for nearly a decade when they warn against "drafting for need" but I don't think so).

BA says there is only one plug and play QB in this draft and that you don't reach for a QBOF.

IMO any one thinking that is Mahomes is kidding himself.

To my mind, he's more Jake the Snake then Bret Favre, but remember that neither was a first round pick.

Gotta be careful analyzing what BA says.

i.e. He may feel that one QB is plug 'n play, but (especially with Palmer and Stanton in place) plug 'n play may not be at the top of his priority list for a QB.

The more and more I read, hear, and look at the prospects, I lean more and more toward who I think would have the greatest immediate impact on each of our games. That would be O J Howard. He is a TE version of Larry Fitzgerald to me. He would immediately make our offense practically unstoppable. With our young RB and him for the next few years, our "new" QB, whoever he is, will have a huge advantage when starting out. I see Howard's upside as a clone between Gronk and Graham at their peak. Just think of the attention he would grab from the opposition's LBs to free D Johnson up when he hits the secondary level on his runs. Howard would influence our team more than anyone I can think of in this draft.

Hope a QB we like falls to the 2nd round, or move up into late 1st to grab one. It would be worth it getting Howard.

From what I have been hearing lately, next year will be great year for QBs coming out. The talk is that team's who aren't desperate for a QB immediately would be better off waiting till next year to draft a franchise QB. They say there will be safer picks next draft, as opposed to all the reaching for all the question marks at QB this draft.

Exactly.

Mahhomes would even be a worse choice if they took him with all the talent on the board at 13.

Not really. Mahomes has just as much a chance as being one of the top at their position as anyone else in the draft. How many ''sure things'' have been drafted in the top 10-15 over the last 10 years that were busts? Dion Jordan,Greg Robinson, etc. All were sure things drafted early that sucked when they got into the NFL. Garrett could be a bust for all we know. My point being is that it is all speculation at this point. Any player could turn out to be a pro bowler or a bust at this point. David Johnson is another example. Everyone had a 3rd or 4th rd grade. Now he would be a top 10 pick.

If it were to happen, I would not complain a bit. If the Cardinals are big on pure athletes then why not OJ Howard?

At this time I would be good with Howard. I would Love Hooker or Adams. I would very much be thrilled with Reddick.

If McCaffrey is there at #13, I would hop on him. But, he's going to go in the top 11. Bank on it.

Again, other than McCaffrey, to me it is a choice between LB Haason Reddick and S Jabrill Peppers.

Foster and Howard would be tough to pass up. I am very worried about Lattimore's hammy issues.

So why not just throw every draft eligible player in a revolving drum and select blindly.

Separate drums for QB's, running backs, wideouts, etc., etc,

Given that it's a "crapshoot", why not? And think of the millions the teams could save in scouting, etc.

I get this is sarcasm, but to tell you the truth, they probably could.

To be fair, its the scouts that said Jerry Rice was too slow, it was the scouts that said Tom Brady was a 5th round pick, it was the scouts that said Tony Jefferson was undraftable,

Pretty good article on this subject:
http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...name-called-in-the-draft/stories/201409070235

That being said, scouts are needed, and YES, there is a method to the madness, but nothing is certain in a draft, it will always be a combination of millions of dollars in scouts salaries, and some luck.

Read something about how the Ravens selection of Ed Reed was pure luck. Ed Reed is going to the Hall of Fame.
