Q: Tyler Herro has really grown into a key player for the Heat, and I wouldn’t trade him unless an undeniable deal comes along. I’ve come around on him and now see his impact as being in the Heat’s top three. Previously, I felt Miami only had a Big Two with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, but with Andrew Wiggins in the mix, I see the potential for a true Big Three. With training camp, a core of Bam, Wiggins, and Herro, along with a real point guard, could be special, especially considering Kel’el Ware’s potential growth. The supporting cast fits well around this group. What do you think? – Olivier, Ashburn, Va
A: I think that is where a true playoff run would have been so beneficial, to see how well the three coalesce, with Andrew Wiggins finally healthy. Instead, it will have to be about this run to the play-in and the play-in itself. From the moment he was acquired, the thought was of Wiggins as a potential trade chip, which could still present value in showcasing Andrew during this stretch run. But if you are asking if Bam-Tyler-Andrew is enough to win as leading men? The answer is it likely would come up as short as Bam-Tyler-Jimmy Butler. So a trade still has to be on the table, potentially for anyone and everyone, even with this brief interlude of winning.
Q: Maybe he’s not your quintessential point guard, but in this recent stretch of games, Davion Mitchell has given the Heat their best point guard play since Kyle Lowry’s first season with the team. – Ray, Deerfield Beach.
A: Certainly from the defensive end. Now what the Heat would have to decide is whether Davion Mitchell has found his stroke or merely is in the midst of a hot streak.
Q: Ira, I liked the Pelle Larsson move against the Hawks. The Heat needed energy. – Sanders.
A: It also was somewhat process elimination, with Duncan Robinson out due to back pain, Alec Burks starting and Terry Rozier and Jaime Jaquez Jr. having been shuffled to the end of the bench, options were limited. It could have been a moment perhaps for Josh Christopher on his two-way contract, and perhaps could be soon enough, with the Heat’s G League affiliate facing playoff elimination.
