The lack of respect continues. We are ranked below "the people's champions", byu, who is somehow #9, and Iowa State, #11. I am ok with coming in at 14 to start the season, sounds about right, but having those two teams ahead of us is not ok. Let them beat us first. We don't play the people's champs next year, but do have Iowa State on their field which is going to be tough.

I don’t think that just because you win the conference championship means you should be the highest ranked team for the following year. I think this ranking makes some sense for a couple of reasons:

1. BYU and Iowa St are very good and with a near term history of success. As of now, ASU is kind of a one hit wonder. We all expect that not to be what pans out but I think this plays into it.

2. Skatebo leaving skews this downward due to how heavily weighted the offense was to him. It’s fair that outsiders pause and wonder the same. I think everyone here wonders if there will be a dropoff with him leaving. It’s a fair question.

3. I am not going to criticize the effort made putting the top 25 together but I suspect little effort was put into digging very deep and understanding just how many productive players/starters are returning. ASU was incredibly successful at retaining the players they wanted to keep.

4. I wonder just how much they understood the amount Leavitt improved through the season. Skatebo really eclipsed alot of the little things (and some bigger things) and Leavitt maturation falls into that shadow I believe. Yes, there is some early Heisman buzz but I don’t really think that moves the needle yet

I like the Sun Devils hungry. Let the talking be done on the field.

You are leaving out the fact that we beat both those teams last year, have most of our starters returning, and have added quality depth at many positions. I don't think "near term history" means anything. The last time we were on the field with these teams, we smacked both of them. That is the starting point of the analysis.

I mentioned everything but beating them. Near term history absolutely means something (see Florida St and numerous SEC teams). It shouldn’t but it absolutely does.

Beating them actually means very little to me because college football has become a year to year proposition for most teams. Utah is lurking out there if they figure out QB. KState seemingly always has a good team. Kansas is tough. Everyone will give up on Colorado but unless Prime leaves I would write them off. There are others

Eh, maybe I didn’t mention adding depth but we simply don’t know if those guys will produce the way we hope they will. I’m excited for the players added but you just never know

I guess maybe what I’m trying to say is, other than it being some conversation generator, this top 25 is meaningless because I doubt much effort was really put into this
