Being a NMSU alum, it looks like I let the hatred for UNM get the best of me. :|

Ha. Yeah, it happens. Been there. ASU should pull away in the 2nd half. UNM doesn't have the horses...but ya never know...

Richard is only 17 years old? Wow....
Overall, an ugly win for the Devils tonight. Kelly looked out of sync. DJ had a great game though. Strong was virtually nonexistent. Youth on defense showed a few times and will most likely be bigtime exploited by better teams...

Well, here are some positives:
---58 points put up by the O
--35 point victory
---Defense shut out NM in the second half
--DJ over 200 yards rushing
--Richard looked awesome
--NM clamped down on Strong, but we made them pay elsewhere
--TK, though still not shining, was able to move the ball around more, including 41 yard bomb to Smith; improvement over last week on the long ball
--still keeping our penalties down, only 4;
--More experience for our young D

With that said, lots to work on obviously. Without a lot of improvement, we aren't going to be able to hang with USC. They are looking really tough.

Based on the first two games, I think ASU is going to have issues hanging not only with USC, but Stanford as UCLA as well. Too small and too young on defense. And if Kelly is out if sync in any of those games, it will spell trouble a they won't be able to rely on DJ rushing for 200 yards...

Yep, we knew those games were going to be challenges before the season started.

But based upon the first two games, I like our chances against UCLA at home. UCLA has really been out of synch as a team, the first game offensively, and the second game defensively.

By the time we get to UCLA, I expect Kelly to be playing very well. He had some nice passes yesterday and ran the ball well. But he has a long way to go.

I am glad we came out and took care of business in the second half.

The defense was shaky, early in particular. Especially on third down. They really need to know where the first down marker is, too many conversions where they beat us to the marker and ran out of bounds. The freshman QB is a real bright spot for New Mexico. On the bright side they hit hard and forced several turnovers.

We may need to re-think allowing TK to change the plays at the line. I saw several audibles where he made the opposite call he should have. When we came out in the second half and he focused on running the play as called, he executed and we scored with efficiency.

I must say I was impressed with how quickly Lamar Jordan executed the New Mexico offense in place of their injured QB. The pitch outs and hand offs were generally executed with exacting precision and speed. He also made some passes to keep the defense honest. I just did not expect their speed and precision in executing the run game. It impressed me.

I agree on Stanford and USC, but have you watched UCLA play? They've looked all out of sorts. That big Thursday night UCLA-ASU game could end up being a slap fight if these two squads don't right the ship.

Yes, UCLA hasn't looked all that great either... However, they have top-tier athletes all over the field... I just think that if both teams aren't hitting on all cylinders, the better talent on the UCLA side of the ball will probably carry the day...
