ASU To Host Baseball Regional

The pregame stunner that Arizona State will host an NCAA baseball regional on Friday went over like one of head coach Pat Murphy's bad jokes.

Dead silence.

Maybe the Sun Devils thought Murphy was joking, because historically they feel picked upon by the selection committee. Like last year when they were seeded seventh nationally, yet assigned to a regional at Cal State Fullerton, the eventual College World Series champion.

Their bracket has Coastal Carolina, UNLV and East Carolina.

Arizona got Fullerton, Harvard and Missouri.

ASU will still have to beat Fullerton this year if they make it out of the first round.

I don't think so. Looks like a very winnable regional. ASU already beat ECU this year. Coastal Carolina is the number one seed in this bracket, don't know much about them.

I have zero faith in the Pat Murphy-led ASU baseball program. I agree that the NCAA really set them up well this year. Maybe it's a little payback for all the years they got screwed in seeding. I just have the feeling they are going to go out and fall flat on their face. The Devils have underperformed almost every year under Murphy in the postseason.

I hope I'm wrong.

ASU is higher ranked than Coastal Carolina in BA's top-25. I think ASU will easily win their regional and most probably play Cal State Fullerton. I hope the UofA can pull it out but I can't see them beating Fullerton twice. Also, Missouri is not an easy first game. They're ranked 16th in the country. The Fullerton regional is the toughest.

I always believed the committee had a SEC bias and today verified that. Look at all the top west teams, they will be eliminating each other before they get to Omaha. How in the world did a weak Arkansas team get a #2 seed?

This year Zona gets the BS road through Fullerton when they had such an awesome year also. Arkansas a #2? Whatever.
