Another tough game on Saturday. To make matters worse, our secondary is banged up, Perry is still out and Carrington is going to try to play, but that seems like a tough go. Gump has been working out in the secondary this week in practice, which tells you how short handed we are back there. That doesn't bode well against another explosive team like UCLA, especially with Graham rolling the dice on defense so much.

Last week, we held the vaunted USC rushing attack to 79 yards on 32 carries. Of course, it was irrelevant because of all the breakdowns and mistakes we had elsewhere. They will need a strong showing to slow down Perkins.

We all know Graham likes to blitz like crazy. Will he be true to form against freshman QB Rosen? I expect that he will and just hope we don't get burned too much as a result. Perhaps he can mix it up a bit. Best case scenario, we get to Rosen and force him to make mistakes like the the BYU game. Worst case scenario, we don't get to him and we get burned by UCLA's speed on the outside.

A bright spot for us on D has been true freshman D lineman Jo Jo Wicker. He has been getting sacks, tackles for losses, and even forced a fumble last week. It would be great if he had a big game for us.

Russ can clarify, but I heard that UCLA is missing 3 starters on D. Our offense really needs to get on track and I am hoping this is the game where that happens.

If we can win the turnover battle by +2, here's my prediction:

ASU 34
UCLA 31

UCLA is missing Vanderdoes, Myles Jack and Fabian Moreau and there may be a couple of others nicked up.

Sorry, what positions do Vanderoes and Moreau play? And what are your expectations for the game and how Rosen will react to the send everyone mentality of Todd Graham?

As talented (though poorly coached) as USC is, UCLA is even more talented, is better coached and is playing home.
ASU is in shambles. Graham has lost his mojo and Norvell is a mess. Berc was overhyped and is not at all ready for prime time.
The only hope for the Devils is that Ballage is somehow able to step up and have a monster game on the ground, thereby keeping the ball away from UCLA and grinding out the clock. If UCLA is able to control time of possession, put up bigtime 3rd down conversions a la USC, this game could very well be an even bigger laugh-fest than the game last week!

I see little to ZERO chance for the Devils...

UCLA - 42
ASU - 14

And like the USC, the game will not at all be as close as that score would suggest!

Not sure what to expect this game. Being that ASU is at a must win game, it is hard to believe they are the better team this weekend. Witnessing that horrific game in person last Saturday left a bad feeling about this week on the road. Hoping that I am wrong but I see the score being-

Asu 24
UCLA 35

Vanderdoes is sort of a hybrid DE/DT, Moreau is a CB. They got Ish Adams back although he predictably looked rusty against UA.

UCLA's OL is experienced, the main concern with the blitzing will be if they have either freshman RB in, Bolu or Jamabo. The experienced RB's are fine in blitz pickups the freshmen probably won't be.

I haven't really seen ASU so not too familiar with them.

Thanks for the info. On D, our coach is big on pressuring the QB, sending people, some would say gambling too much and getting burned in the process, giving up a lot of big plays in the process. So, a lot will depend on how quickly Rosen can get rid of the ball. USC totally game planned for the pressure and got the ball to their burners in space, and we paid a heavy price. Our secondary is solid, but very banged up, and probably not capable of handling UCLA's passing game in blitz packages if we can't get to Rosen.

Our offense hasn't really clicked real well yet. Berco has been off, receivers have dropped a lot of passes, we haven't capitalized in the red zone, suspect play calling and coordination between the coaching staff and the players on the field. Our running game has been pretty solid, and should do well on Saturday. So that's what you've missed. :)

Its game day people! Hope springs eternal!

Except I just read about UCLA's veteran offensive line, they haven't given up many sacks, and Rosen has completed a higher percentage of passes when blitzed. So that Oline must be one of the reason they decided to start a true freshman QB this year, they are tough as nails. So I expect that it will be tough for ASU to apply pressure, but we'll see. Come on Jo Jo Wicker!

Does anyone really buy the QB option play fake by Berco? That is a Taylor Kelly play...how about adjusting your playbook to the talent at hand coach?

Norvell has been horrendous... Like, almost inexplicably horrible.

ASU has talent on offense, maybe not top 20 talent but they should not look this inept. This is shameful

#38 Simone is terrible. He has a hand in every bad defensive play. It's almost comical.

Can Berc only throw the back shoulder fade? Literally 90% of his pass attempts are the back shoulder fade... Pathetic!

Great throw by Berc to DJ for the TD. UCLA playing their worst game of the season and the Devils taking advantage...
