That said, Carter/Dudley/#13 for Smith feels to me like a slight overpayment. I like Smith, but if a team that has been a middle playoff seed for the last several years is ready to give up on him, that says something.

I actually think its an under payment. I think you'd have to toss in Robin Lopez to make it more appealing for Atlanta, which I'd do in a second.

Though undersized, Smith could/would certainly play a lot of time at the 4 for the Suns in addition to the 3. If they could bring him in and get Jason Richardson back, we'd be looking at 50+ wins and a really fun team. Probably not a title bound team, but who the heck thought Dallas and all those old guys was the team to beat at the beginning of last year?

Agreed, we're not going anywhere anyway, at least make it entertaining.

Yep, and this team (if it could be brought together):

Nash/Brooks
Richardson/Pietrus
Smith/Hill/Childress
Frye/Warrick
Gortat/Siler

is deep and versatile. I have no idea what Richardson will command salary wise though and its of course tricky with the new CBA coming up.

But looking at that roster versus what the potential other Western Conference rosters should be for next year the only teams you can say are for sure better are Dallas, OKC and LA. None of those teams I would say are leagues better either. LA may go through a shake up and they'll have a new coach, so maybe not even them.

If you can do a trade like that which pushes you into the top 4 teams in your conference, do it and maybe the Suns get an easy playoff draw and make some noise like they did 2 years ago.

Considering the Mavs won it all with exactly 1 all star worthy player on their roster (granted, Dirk was teen wolf, but still), it's not a crazy idea. Let's face it...it's not like we're mortgaging the future either, Smith only has 2 years left on his deal, and we're not going anywhere with our current group.

If not for this, and Minnesota does get Williams, we should push hard for Beasley. He'd average 20 points a game with Nash, and give us a player that can actually create his own shot.

I would love to see this happen. I also just don't have faith in a total rebuild by this regime.

Also, I believe they'll probably end up keeping Nash as long as he wants to play anyway.

IMO you do this or you trade Nash. If the Suns FO doesn't have the gut to do this, deal Nash to Toronto or NY. Why can't our front office see what is so plain in front of them?

because they're color blind... they don't see reality. all they see is green... not realizing that when they bring this **** ass team back, the fans will be seeing red and ticket sales will dry up. Phoenicians don't go watch the Suns to see Steve Nash... they watch the Suns to see them win and win big. anything less than that and the fans won't stand for it.
