Nixon resigned in 1974. The following year ASU football went 12-0. Two of the next three years we went 9-3. Daryl Rogers got us to 9-2 and 10-2 in consecutive seasons. Cooper years - 3 straight bowl games (including winning the Rose Bowl) and finished with 8 wins and 10 wins in consecutive seasons. Marmie was good for 6 wins a year. Snyder - 11-1, 9-3. Dirk - 8-6, 9-3. Erickson has a 10-3 year with the Devils under his belt.

Besides Marmie and the fill-in coach between Kush and Rogers, I'd say our football team has done pretty well. The years during and before the Nixon administration were stellar as well.
I thought Kush got fired before '78 so my bad. Since then ASU has averaged 6.6 wins per season, hence my comment. ASU has been dead average since you guys fired him (and since dedicated him your field). Winning ten games one season means nothing if you follow it with five.

Arizona State has many highly ranked academic programs and the entrance requirements are the same as UA's. I honestly don't take that argument seriously. ASU of course has the reputation of being a big party school, which it is, but it is in fact, a quality school.

As for the game...anything can happen in this rivalry. I'll be in section 32 once again.

What a bunch of dorks the Devil fans are starting a thread about the hilarious "AU" typo on ESPN. That's about as clever as telling someone to spell I CUP and giggling like a school girl afterward.

Crap looks like I just armed Tukeetyler with a new joke to use at recess tomorrow. Good luck with that one bud.

Apparently being a laughingstock of an athletic department the past two years doesn't get you fans much contrition. Funny how I'm not seeing anymore Dennis Erickson/Jesus avatars. Unfortunatly even a coach with two NC's and whom revived the freaking Oregon State program can't taking the " sleeping" out of "sleeping giant" myth we all hear so much about. You guys longing for the glory days of Dirk Koetter yet?

I love how Devil fans are already resorting to the "anything can happen" mantra for this weeks game as if Tinkerbelle is going to come to sprinkle some fairy dust on the team and give you an actual offense. Your the only team in FBS to make Wazzu look half way decent this year.

31-10 b****s. And a two game win streak on the way.

don't feel bad turkeetyler, Arizona's Finest uses the recess joke all the time, he's trying to relive the glory days, which unfortunately for him ended in school where there still was recess, elementary school.

either that or he's mad that UofA just lost to Wisconsin in basketball. who knows?

Wait you are you saying that the second coming has already lost a game. that makes my heart sad for them.
You do realize that Herb Sendek lost his third game as ASU coach at home to somebody named Portland State, right?

Arizona is in all likelihood going to make it's 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this season, contend to win the Pac-10 next, and be in the running for a Final Four in 2012. ASU can't say that about itself in either of the revenue sports. Trust me, we're not worried about hoops nor did we expect Sean Miller to go undefeated.

Nobody acted like he was a savior coming in to this program either. It might not be you specifically but there are many UA fans that have put him on a pedestal already.

Miller's a terrific a coach - not as good as Lute but will get us somewhere in between where the program is now and where we were during the height of the Olson Era. Most importantly Miller will make Arizona more than a one coach program and break UNC's Tournament streak which is what he was brought in to do which solidifies us as a upper-echelon program forever.

I stayed up to watch the game last night here on the East Coast. Anyone who came away not happy with how we looked 3 games into the Sean Miller era is either drinking way too much Koolaid or had the expectation level way to high.

Individually we looked damn good and you could tell the team was being coached better then maybe ever. That was a hell of a game.

There will be ups and downs this year but I feel confident after watching yesterdays game that we will round into form around midseason and make #26.

So here's my question: Is ASU getting to a bowl game first or going to the NCAA tournament first? Cause I don't see either happening in the next two years.

Syracuse you just make me laugh. You are like an annoying little high schooler who snuck into a college kegger and is trying to fit in. You aren't doing your university any favors every time you decide to post so let me help you out:

I actually agree with that. I think he is a great recruiter and a good game day coach.

I actually think the defensive intensity was the best I had seen at UA in awhile and I think Miller's offense, while not as wide open as Lutes, will still attract big time players. I am not saying he will achieve Lute type success but it wouldn't suprise me at all if he gets damn close.

We got lucky in this one.

Honestly AF I think you are looking through your Red and Blue glasses. I guarantee about a year and a half you were ready to get rid of stoops and now everything is rosy. There are two reason's why, Sonny Dykes and Nick Foles. If this was a Matt Scott lead team it would be much different. So the possibility of someone like Threet coming in next year and turning this offense around is not that far fetched.

Nope and Mao will tell you this. I have been a stay the course with Stoops guy the whole time. I never jumped on him and have always thought he would get it done eventually.

I am not saying stay the course on DE or not. Frankly I don't care. I am more worried about what we do.

Ugh, I knew this was going to turn this way.

1) To all of you personally attacking posters, stay classy.
2) Stop talking about basketball, everyone. I can't stand when people want to talk smack about one sport/game and then UA fans come out screaming "wait 'till basketball season" or ASU fans scream "wait 'till baseball/football season."
3) To those who actually think UA is a higher academic institution, stop kidding yourselves. The entrance requirements for both schools are almost identical. The only difference is that ASU is known as a "party school." Just because we party hard doesn't mean we don't take care of our business too. I'm not saying ASU is better than UA academically, but they are quite even.
4) Before you people start calling people out for their "academics" you better know who you are talking about. I mean, you have no idea who I am, what level of education I have, or what I'm about. You should really just keep your mouth shut unless you can speak from experience.
5) This is a message board. I don't spend 15 minutes writing and editing my posts. Sorry to those who find the need for perfect grammar and/or spelling. I apologize for that.

Some of us have histories that don't include you. ;)

And Anchorman came out in something like 2002. Why don't we move on to a new line?

Syracuse brought up us losing in bball last night. I am prefectly content to focus on the thrashing on hand this Saturday.

I got my degree from UA and am doing quite well thank you. The academics argument is one I stay out of because although nationally, a UA degree is thought more of then ASU typically (due to the "party school" reference you mentioned I guess - or maybe its all the jokes you hear on TV referencing ASU academia i.e. The Simpsons and Tosh.0), it varies from degree to degree and person to person.

This I agree with. Infact one of these posts was from my blackberry in bed at 2AM so you can understand if I don't speak the King's english from post to post.

6) GO DEVILS!

The only thing thats good about that school in my opinion is referenced in the picture you have on your signature. I love me some ASU women. UA women are just as cute but for some reason it seems like the ASU girls are a little quicker to pull the trigger.

So we can drink to that:cheers:

This.

I can understand the eiltism from a Harvard graduate toward ASU, even if I hate elitism, but coming from U of A graduates, it's just bizarre and laughable.

Pretty much everyone who gets into ASU has the choice of either school. UA doesn't have half the number of students because they have tougher entrance requirmenents. It's that way because more students choose to go to ASU. Simple really.

You make me laugh because you are typical UofA grad with Phoenix Envy who takes immature, arrogant cheap shots at people.

Also, that team looked really well coached, 30 fouls? nice....

U of A begged me to go there, scholarships, letters, etc.

ASU gave me a tuition scholarship and a better business school.

People who argue U of A over ASU academics are stuck in the past, which doesn't surprise me at all, I went down to Tucson a few weeks ago and that whole city is stuck in the past.

I am from Tempe. Went to Junior High and High School there. Spent a year after college there. Am going to be coming to visit my family that still lives there. In fact I even went to ASU for my sophmore year and decided "this school sucks and I am seeing the same people I always do" The last thing I have is Phoenix envy. In fact its my home.

And again you are having strong opinions on things you don't understand. The game was called so ticky tack that the announcers were lamenting that fact for the entire game. They said the officials were taking over and not allowing for flow of the game. And if you think we had a lot of fouls you should go see how many Wisconsin had.

But you keep talking about things you don't know.

Like pretty much everything.

ASU must have really sucked for you.

and yes, I did watch the game, Wisconsin couldn't hit free throws so the fouls didn't lose you the game. Maybe the 10 offensive rebounds you allowed had something to do with that.

Listen - I am not a big fan of Syracuse (and to a much lesser degree turkytyler) for the nature of their posts and how they address me.

I like ASU/UA rivalry week because I like to talk trash. CuseLAXman is a completely different animal. While I have maintained in my many years to not make it about the poster but rather the schools when discussing this subject, Syracuse has taken more then one opportunity to try and take pot shots at me and make stupid little comments. Even on the Cardinal board where theoretically we are on the same team. And even when unprevoked.

I am going to have to ask all you ASU bretheren to back off because I am going to tear that goof down every chance I get. You can call it whatever you want, but I actually enjoy stripping away his self respect and hopefully he cries himself to sleep because of me.

As for the rest of you - I really have no issues other then wanting to beat your school this week. In fact secretly I think ASU Chris is quite smart and others who rep ASU are quite pleasent and fun to engage in conversation with.

But some people just don't get along. And that's Cuse and I simple.

We shot 37 free throws to their 29 so while I can't find the actual foul numbers, I assumed they were the ones hacking for that reason.

You are a better man then me. You won't catch me watching a ASU basketball game at 10 o'clock at night.

So DBackJon has that posting on the UofA board about ASU fans posting over there, why don't people go by the same thing on this board. I have no problem a few jousts here and there but to get to the point that you constantly go back and forth with someone you truly don't like is really silly and makes no sense.
