Auburn is looking to add depth to its center position and is interested in adding a big man with Power Five experience.
According to Joe Tipton of On3, Auburn joins a healthy list of top programs showing interest in Federiko Federiko, a 6-11 center from Texas Tech. Bruce Pearl and his staff are in a nine-team race for Federiko's services, joining several SEC programs, including Ole Miss and Texas A&M.
Federiko started 53-of-68 games played at Pittsburgh as a freshman and sophomore, where he averaged 5.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while connecting on 65% of his field goal attempts. His minutes and starts dipped a bit when transferred to Texas Tech for the 2024-25 season, but he still managed to be productive for the Red Raiders. He appeared in 38 games for Texas Tech last season, making six starts. In 19.1 minutes of action per game, Federiko scored 5.4 points and grabbed 4.8 rebounds. His overall field goal percentage increased to 74%, and he experienced a slight bump in free throw success from 53% to 57%.
Auburn has landed JUCO center Emeka Opurum from Butler Community College, but is looking to continue building depth as its Final Four roster is close to depleted. Dylan Cardwell departs after spending five seasons with the program, where he started every game at the center position.
Outside of Opurum, Pearl has added four transfers: forward Keyshawn Hall (UCF), forward Keshawn Murphy (Mississippi State), guard Elyjah Freeman (Lincoln Memorial), and Federiko's ex-teammate in Lubbock, guard Kevin Overton. Auburn also secured the nation's top JUCO player in Abdul Bashir, who will also earn a place within the Tigers' backcourt.
The transfer portal window will close on April 22, but expect Auburn to make several more additions in an effort to repeat last season's Final Four success.
