STORY: In a speech at the Australian National University, Wong said, "Recognising a Palestinian state – one that can only exist side by side with a secure Israel – doesn’t just offer the Palestinian people an opportunity to realise their aspirations. It also strengthens the forces for peace and it undermines extremism.""A two-state solution is the only hope of breaking the endless cycle of violence,” she added.Wong's comments echoed remarks by Britain's foreign minister David Cameron, who has spoken of a need for a "credible route to a Palestinian state" that should be "irreversible".The so-called two-state solution has long been the basis for international peace efforts to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict, but the process has been stalled for a decade even before the present war in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
