I saw this in 3D yesterday with my nephew. I thought it was good. Not amazing, not fabulous.

I never knew about the story or the show or books or whatever. My niece was telling me about all the problems she had with it compared to the show (names pronounced differently, the Water tribe being white instead of Eskimo, etc...).

I didn't have any expectations so probably why I enjoyed it more.

Oh yeah, the acting was pretty bad, especially early on. Also, probably not a movie you would HAVE to see in 3D.

Overall, I'd give it 3.5 stars.

You are the first person that I know who actually like this movie. In fact most of my friends either walked out or wanted to walk out but we stuck because they came with others. They told me it is an absolute mess and the 3D is awful.

Saw it with my boys this afternoon. Not knowing anything about it going in, I thought the mythology of the story was really very cool. The execution of the movie could have been WAY better.

That said, I didn't think it was horrible, just not as good as it could have been.Damning faint praise, I suppose. Hopefully they'll do the remaining movies better.

Oh, and the M. Night twist at the end? It doesn't. I hate movies that aren't self-contained.

it actually opened up stronger than most people expected, ESPECIALLY after the reviews savaged the hell out of it.

70 million for the holiday weekend means anything is possible, horrific reviews or not. Next weekend will be the key if it gets any sequels.

It's going to tank big time next weekend--all the kids that went to see it this weekend will go see Despicable Me instead.

At least, that's what I'm hoping. The last thing we need is someone to give M. Night money to make movies.

I was excited when this movie was announced, because my kids, my wife, and me really enjoy the cartoon. Then I heard MNS was the director and it gave me pause, but I was still hopeful.

After reading almost 99% bad reviews from friends, posters, and dozens of critics I think I am going to pass...

In a van...down by the river.
M Night's first three films were very, very good(including Signs)...first time i saw Village i felt ripped off, then i came to appreciate it more...Lady in the water sucked(but my kids actually like it)....The Happening was pure garbage.

I won't be going to see Air Bender.

M.Nights decline has been steady and consistent at least, LOL.
It's like he's tanking.
I have no explanation how a writer/director can make three excellent films in a row and then proceed to roll out four films that amount to crap.

I don't think he's a hack(as you referenced Chap), the writing has dropped off thats for sure, although the premise of The Happening was promising. I don't know,if i had to narrow it down to whats been the worst thing about his recent films... it's his writing of the dialogue, which facillitates bad acting, which amounts to unwatchable.

His directing in terms of composition and craft is still good quality, but you hardly even notice it because the rest of it is so bad.

Its too bad,i used to look forward to his films.

Saw it... No picture should have that much bad acting!!! They would have been better off getting Chinese Wushu dancers that could actually do half the crap they needed wires for. The acting would have improved as well because I can't understand mandrin...

Sokka wasn't even funny!!! Not at all. I loved watching Sokka in the series. In the movie he was a waste of space and no build up with Princess Yue... Just majorly disappointed from a person who can usually tolerate bad moments in movies.

CGI stuff was pretty cool..

Agree with everything you say here (even about the Mist!). :D

The Village holds the distinction of being the single worst movie I've ever seen in the theater (and I've seen the Pauly Shore epic Son-In-Law in the theater).

DON'T YOU BAD-MOUTH SON-IN-LAW!!!

I saw that movie TWICE in one night in college. TWICE! IN THE THEATER!

I've been that stoned before...I thought I was leaving the theatre, only to get turned around, and end up back in the auditorium again.

I was scarred for life though...it was for Poltergeist 2.

Grand daughter (8) liked it.... Grand parents (58 and 64) were sorely unimpressed.

Special effects were interesting.

Acting was like a root planing sans Novocaine.

The lack of appeal of the child-actors was 10 times worse than the kids in Chronicles of Narnia.

Plot holes were big enough to pilot the USS Nimitz through.

Almost exclusively for the special effects, it ranks 1.5 out of 5 stars. Without the special effects, would be worse than some of those Sandra Bullock films.... ;)

I watched this because the 'How Did This Get Made?' podcast reviewed it last week. Holy cow was this terrible. I almost hope they let M. Night make the second one because I want to see if he could possibly make it worse.

My son got 3 months of Netflix streaming as a gift for his birthday. So I added this to our instant Queue. Wow, I felt like I was watching a high school play. Terrible acting! Silly giant flying teddy bear. The only decent actor was the kid from Slum Dog.

This was bad, but actually not as bad as I was expecting because of all the awful things I've heard about it over the years.

It made $320M! People must really love the tv series.
