IMO the Cowboys are so 'love me...love me' attitude that they didn't pay attention to the board behind them in interviews...never thinking someone would be able to put all the pieces together.

Note that they never allow any team to take a full on pict of the board...there's no way it was intentional.

The guy putting it together belongs on Law and Order -Blue Squad.

Yeah I just think Jerry is so in love with himself that when a camera is on he forgets what's going on around him.

Was it a Cowboys fan who did it? This is the second time in 4 years this has happened. I call into question if it was a fan. For some weird reason that only the Cowboys would know, I think it was the Cowboys who leaked this information. Otherwise they are just plain idiots for this to happen for a second time in 4 years.

Well the Cowboy fans who put this together were only able to see the first 5 rounds because 6 and 7 were covered in the video. I find it hard to beleive that the Cowboys would purposely leak this info.

Why? What value does a list of names have after the draft is complete? The only value is that the general manager might look stupid years later if they have a guy who ends up good with a 7th round grade or something. Even then, it's not a big deal. And since Jerry Jones is the general manager, it's not like he can fire himself.

To Joe's point about using a first-round pick on a guy with a second-round grade, I think that all the guys they had graded as a first-rounder (they only had 18) were taken. They took the BPA on their board, or they could say they got their 22ed-highest rated player with the 31st pick in the draft.

If it's not a big deal then why not just give it out every year? Why would they secretly leak it out? Why would they only give out 2 of their draft boards and not every draft from every year? Why don't 31 other teams leak out their draft boards?

For the same reasons that Chuck Klosterman wrote about in his post-draft Grantland piece. NFL Front Offices are paranoid about everything. Because there's very little information-sharing, teams make the same mistake that a team made the year prior.

Mostly because the General Manager doesn't want to be pilloried with a dumb evaluation that comes through his office. The Cowboys are unique in having an owner as general manager. Do you think that it just didn't occur to him--or to anyone else on his staff--that someone might be able to read the cards behind him, after it just happened three years ago?

makes perfect sense. I don't want my competition to learn a lesson for free that cost me a 1st rd pick and $20M guaranteed. I want them to pay more for that mistake. I'd "leak" a fake draft board. Be hilarious if that's what Jones did

The only thing is it could maybe give other teams a small amount of insight into Dallas' draft philosophy and evaluation process.

So you honestly believe that the Cowboys purposely leaked part of their draft board so that the world could see it? But they didn't want to make it easy so they made some internet nerds analyze frames of video to grab the first five rounds of their draft board.

I find that highly unlikely. What I do believe is that Jerry Jones is a terrible GM and is dumb enough to let this happen twice.

No. I don't really care, because it's 4:40 on a Friday and I'm debating whether to watch the Season 2 finale of Game of Thrones on my iPhone in the can until I get out at 6.

I think that Jerry Jones is an eccentric billionaire who uniquely doesn't care whether the world sees an already-obsolete draft board. They release it to a fan site (as Joe infers) to provide some fan service while getting the nation talking about the Cowboys in the middle of a news-starved NFL info trough.

I've had people confirm to me where players were ranked on the Cards draft board. This isn't rocket science.

Disagree with those saying it isn't a big deal and those saying it was done on purpose. Philosophies on teams don't alter much from year to year and when they do it's usually drastic. By knowing an opponent's draft board you could essentially hold that team hostage the following draft. If you know they won't draft a WR under 6 foot, you can threaten drafting the WR they do want before they get up on the board, thereby gaining leverage. If you know they won't draft anyone with the slightest character questions, that gives you an advantage you wouldn't otherwise have: you know they aren't going to draft Honey Badger before you hit the board, for instance. Same thing if you know they like big, slow D tackles or athletic LB's. It's an extreme advantage and there's absolutely no benefit to releasing the information.

If the draft philosophies don't change from year to year, isn't the data out there already? Is someone going to be surprised by knowing that the Cowboys, who are transitioning from a 3-4 D to a Tampa-2 are looking for smaller, quicker DTs? OMG! If the Cowboys clearly like bigger WRs (like Dez Bryant and Miles Austin, is it particularly shocking that they wouldn't put a Top 5 grade on Tavon Austin? SHOCKER!

I know. I'm super-conflicted about trying to scam on someone's HBOGo account (my folks have HBO but aren't internet-savvy enough to take advantage of the mobile--can you have multiple devices on an HBOGo account?) to watch Season 3. I just finished "Blackwater," and it was AMAZING.

I don't know if I can wait until next January to find out if Ingrit gets her kit off.

I would imagine. Considering how many households have multiple tablets/laptops/smartphones. I have one of each, I'm sure most do, along with their significant others. It may be you can only watch on 1 device at a time like Sunday Ticket was. But you can always just check out piratebay and DL it too...

Some of the info is out there obviously, but mentioning Dez Bryant only enhances the point I was making. The assumption in the article is that Dallas doesn't draft players with character issues (at least this year) and yet there's Dez Bryant, who had his own question marks coming out. Which begs the question, what changed? Who changed that philosophy? Or is there something deeper there? Depending on how you interpret the data, you could argue that Dez Bryant's off-the-field issues aren't something they want to deal with again, regardless of how badass he plays (at times).

However, all that aside, my main point is that there's no upside whatsoever and tons of downside. By deconstructing their draft board you can legitimately evaluate how their team was built--especially based on the draft they wanted but didn't get. That's twice in the last couple years. If you take a 5-year spread, you can definitely evaluate how they put a team together.

Before and during the draft, leverage, threats (threatening to take your prize player) and feints are the name of the game. Coaches even watch players work out whom they don't even want--all because a division rival is interested. Having your last draft board public isn't helpful in this regard.

As a fan, you and me and probably everyone here would love to see our own draft board. But when it comes to winning games and being professional, would you really want ours out there? Or would you just not care?

but it could also be as simple as they don't want too many headcases in the lockerroom. One or 2 is fine, the coach can handle it, but anymore and it gets out of hand

I agree with that, and it was a point I shouldn't have made as it detracted from the more important point, which is that there's no benefit to releasing that information.

One thing I forgot to mention is that it also gives everyone a sense of the strength of their front office. What types of players they lean toward and how they rank them and how accurate they are. That's not something I want our opponents knowing about our team. Every draft weakness is exposed and I don't think that's something any NFL team should share. Everyone has weaknesses, but you don't announce them.

totally agree with that point. Like I just said, I wouldn't want to give any opponent any sort of info that has ANY possibility of helping them or hurting me

Yeah. I watch GoT on my iPhone because the wife is reading the books and DOESN'T want spoilers (she'll stop reading). I generally don't watch sitting at the computer, so I'm not tethered in to a streaming site.

It's on my agenda for this week.

Sure there is. The Cowboys are as much about marketing and branding as they are about football. They're getting pub that isn't Desmond Bryant getting arrested or Dez Bryant working for Michael Jordan for free. That organization eats that stuff up.

I honestly don't care whether our draft board gets released after the draft. What is the downside? It's pretty clear how a team wants to put itself together when you just look at their roster. If you read the articles by guys like Peter King who sit inside the draft rooms, teams know who they're going to pick; it's incredibly rare when a team is surprised by a particular player "falling" to them.

That's how you go from Mike Mayock having a second round grade on Ryan Swope to saying that Swope falling into the sixth round was no surprise "because of all the concussions" that no one talked about in the lead-up to the draft. Teams make calls and disclose who they'd be interested in trading up/down for ALL THE TIME, EVERY YEAR.

As Klosterman said in that Grantland piece, there's really not a ton of magic to what goes on in NFL War Rooms; they're watching the same two networks that we are for 98% of their info. Everything else is on tape.

Do I think that Jones would release his draft board the day of the draft? Probably not, but I think he understands the publicity upside of having a terrible draft's rankings out there (really, to me, the surprise is having first round grades on only 18 players) doesn't make much of a difference.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, in regards to damage of releasing a draft board. While I agree with you on the marketing and branding of the Cowboys, I'm simply talking about winning games. I don't care about the rest of it. Releasing that info doesn't help you win games. Simple as that.

piratebay is torrents. You can DL and put on your phone to watch, or DL to your phone if on WiFi or have unlimited data. If you have Android, get a free program called aDownloader from the market. Change the search engine in settings for Pirate Bay and just search, DL and you can even watch straight from the app. SUPER convenient

So I reviewed their draft picks and except for their 1st rd pick they got good to fantastic value based on their board. This would speak to the leak it on purpose theorists. Jerry has had to be getting heat for drafting the C/OG in the 1st rd that most had rated as a 2nd rd pick.

When were the pictures/video actually taken? Do you we know for certain the time line.

I agree with those who say JJ is an attention ***** and could easily just have screwed up twice within four years. I actually like this scenario better because it makes him look like even more of a buffoon. I simply can't stand Jones.

Either way it is a fun and interesting read. How about D C Jefferson rated as a 3rd rd prospect at TE. Since they drafted Escobar in rd 2 it makes sense they didn't jump on Jefferson in the next couple of rounds. But why not take a 3rd rd talent in the 6th or
7th rd????

Either they blew it big with Jefferson or they draft almost entirely on need.

Why would a 3rd rd talent get past 31 other teams until the 7th rd.
