Apparently we will have to agree to disagree. He averaged 18 in just his 2nd year when he had more freedom to create on offense. Then we brought in Monty and his offensive role was significantly cut down. He will probably get a lot more freedom with the Blazers and that will likely show in his raw stats.
he also got suspended and sucked in the bubble

Dude almost missed a game in the bubble. He did miss the first half, IIRC. All the players locked down in a hotel resort and he couldn't be where he needed to be on time. That was telling.

With a possible playoff berth on the line, no less, where the team had no room for error if they wanted to get in that last spot.

is anyone but maybe 1 or 2 posters making the argument bolded above? Most everyone here not bashing the trade is pretty much in unison saying it had to come down to Book/KD hating Ayton and his value being lower than anyone here thought. It's not a great package. But it gets us a little more shooting/playmaking, an okay, albeit injury prone C and the hope is we're looking at addition by subtraction. By no means is that a given though.
Sure, some folks are saying the latter. But I think it's more than 1 or 2 saying the former. There seems to be at least maybe a half dozen with the "I'm just happy he's gone, I don't care what they traded him for" take. To them, I would say be careful what you wish for.

While I agree that he was immature, unreliable, and frustrating as hell, there is a threshold in how that is handled where you can be cutting off your nose to spite your own face. The Suns have had a history of that (the Crowder situation being one recent example). Hopefully, this works out better overall.

The players all seemed to back Crowder but didn't want to make waves since it was a Monty/Crowder issue. Of course Monty had his issues with Ayton also but Ayton did himself no favors. Then this summer he threw everyone under the bus with his talk about being with the best teammates he ever had for the Bahamian squad and then following that up by quoting Monty. I think that was calculated. Any good will he may have had with his teammates evaporated then, even if they were on his side for the Monty issues. It seemed very too faced on Ayton's part.

"Yeah, funny."
--Denver Fans
Two players on the championship team (jokic and Murray) were on this team 4 seasons prior. Four (jokic murray MPJ and some guy named cancar) were on the team 3 seasons prior. And that’s a team we think of as having a lot of continuity of roster.

So listening to the radio they just said that our new Center had some motivation issues in the past. So we just traded a guy with motivation issues for another guy who potentially has motivation issues. Great!

It was cause of injuries and getting shut down I believe. I think we were listening to the same thing. It was on Burns and Gambo right?

Tried searching for any info on Nurkic having motivation issues and found nothing. Sounds like unfounded conjecture. Never heard of his motor being questioned before either.

It was a soundbite from a Portland beat reporter that said this trade doesn’t make much sense because they traded one guy with motivation problems for another guy with motivation problems. Then 30 seconds ago I just hear Barkley repeat that. In the car. Have not researched it.

Even if it's true, it's one thing to have some lapses in motivation on a bad team, but having those same lapses on a team with championship aspirations is pretty insane.

So they mentioned it to? Was that the reasoning??

I've been reading the same from posts by Blazers fans at various places (Facebook, Real GM, etc.): i.e., Nurkic can sulk when he doesn't get touches on offense, is constantly injured, disappears at key times, not super dependable, attitude issues.

Feel free to take fan opinions for what they're worth. But it definitely sounds like there are a similar cohort of Portland fans who are as disenchanted with Nurkic as there are Suns fans who were unhappy with Ayton.

Nurkic has always had a reputation of finding small slights to pout over and to play unenthused ball when he's not getting the minutes or the touches. And early in his career there were occasional comments about his work habits (just like there were about Jokic at one time). Having said all that, I don't believe his questionable work habits, lack of motivation and attitude issues ever reached the level we've seen from DA.

The sad reality is Grayson Allen is the best player coming to the Suns in this deal.
Can’t wait tell we play Dallas. Go get him Grayson
As far as Allen goes, I'd rather have too much dog in a player than not enough. I think fans are going to like him.

Probably not... but it will bear watching next year. Actually, I'm far more concerned about his ability to stay healthy.

OK. This all new info I had not heard. I am hearing it from you guys and multiple sound bites on the radio. I have not had a chance to research any of it but sounds like there is something to it. Not sure to what extent but sounds like it was a concern in Portland.

Yeah, definitely. I have far more concerns about his health than any possible attitude issues.

We are all ASSUMING Allen remains with the team all season. He has a VERY tradable contract.

There were some problems in Denver too but like I said, I don't think they were ever at the level we experienced with DA. IOW, I think there's some truth to them but I don't expect it will be much of an issue for us. Obviously, people aren't perfect and Nurkic is a people. With DA it was almost a defining issue, with Jusuf it's something that's pointed to when things are going south and fans are frustrated. JMO.
