I get that Ayton was an immature screwball. I assume the Suns decided a while ago that was never going to improve and they had to move on from him.

What I don't get is not waiting until at least mid-season when the market undoubtedly would have been better than this garbage haul. They didn't even try having him get in a few months under Vogel to potentially build his market value.

The league called the Suns bluff. They knew they wanted to get rid of him and nobody offered squat earlier in the off-season. Frank Vogel did his best in interviews but it fell short.

I think in the end, neither the Suns nor Ayton wanted Ayton to be in Phoenix, but I hate basketball decisions being made with emotion and not logic
Yeah, if that was what decided the deal should have been made before the draft, waiting till the last second before camp and just taking whatever you can get seems pretty dumb.

I didn't want to trade DA because I didn't believe we could get close to fair value but I never thought we would sell this low. Oh well, it will be nice not to have to watch him disappear for long stretches in games but OTOH, giving him away for what appears to be a salary dump makes no sense given our short term goals. I guess the best we can do now is just wait, see and hope.

I don't believe this at all.

I think at the time Vogel got hired he did want to keep him, I am almost sure something must have changed in the last few months.

I'm more disappointed we lost Camara than DA. Ayton was going to be a problem this year, financially and in the locker room. This clears the way and gives us a serviceable Center who can bang with guys like Jokic, Giannis, or Embiid while not being needed otherwise. I don't care how Nurkic switches on the perimeter because Vogel doesn't run the same system as Monty that was dependent on switching. He'll also be capable of scoring when having a mismatch inside, which Ayton was awful at taking advantage of. We can now look more traditional with a legit banger inside and when he's on the bench, run 5 out chaos with 5 marksmen.

We'll see a lot of small ball this year and since that's where the league is headed, I dont see the issue. Ayton was and will remain fools gold. Looks good, no real value. Good riddance.

Apparently the trade isn't completed because allegedly Portland is trying to find a 4th team to take Jrue.

Oh and Jimmy Butler is floating the word "tampering" against the Bucks. Not sure why or how, but he is.

Awful trade.

Nurkic is just a guy, Gambo is out to lunch when he claims the dude is a impactful defender.

The filler of the trade is about as filler as it gets. Allen is a poor man’s Pat Bev.

Little better develop into a stud.

Gross.

Allen is better than Pat Bev for sure. He’s a career 40% 3pt shooter in the playoffs and can handle the ball a bit.

I don't think replacing Ayton with Nurkic at this point affects the ceiling all that much. We have yet to see if Nurk will have the same injury problems, and we don't know if there are subsequent moves planned here, because as the trade sits right now, we cannot accommodate it.
Couldn’t disagree more. You know how we know? Salaries aside nobody would trade these two guys straight up. The only reason this is happening is because the Dame trade made this viable and the Suns wanted to get this done before the season started. It’s a pretty universal opinion across the news cycles the Suns sold low.

We should have held out for a better opportunity. I would have also liked to see what Frank could do with him.

The net gain benefits Milwaukee by a wide margin. Theyre the only team that gets considerably better in this deal. Portland loses top-10 talent that Ayton and Jrue likely wont equal. Phoenix? Well, Phoenix just wanted to say it was doing something of substance.
I don’t buy this. Nothing that’s been done under ishbia has been done just to do something. There’s more to this story. We just don’t know it imo.

Allen intentionally injures players, went to Duke, and has the second most punchable face in the NBA. F**k him. He’ll never get my love
I’ll never love him and wish no players like him were allowed in the nba. But if they have to exist I’d rather he be injuring opposing players than mine.

I think you're misunderstanding. I think this wasn't a good trade for us, but I'm not as convinced it significantly lowers our championship ceiling yet.

#1. Suns finally have a center who can catch a pass and flow with the offense
#2. I doubt he's partying and playing NBA2k until 3AM constantly
#3. Nurkic's injury might finally be healed and we see the best version of him since then
#4 I feel this means more minutes for Bol Bol
#5 Maybe another move ahead

#6? Cap considerations? Did this bring us under the apron and/or give us the flexibility to do so with more moves?

That's all I got.

I wanted Ayton gone so we could make moves, but we did so without having to move him. I was fine with keeping him at least until the trade deadline to see if he would fit. We were playing with house money.

Feel like this isn't enough when there wasn't a need to trade him now.

Perhaps JJ felt this was the approximate deal now or near trading deadline and best to do it now so you have the whole season to gel.

We should’ve just kept Ayton. He stays healthy and gives you buckets. This is a bad trade, WHY WE HAD TO BE INVOLVED IN IT?!!

I'm really disappointed as the rest of you are and somebody else mentioned I'm almost more disappointed we lost TC and didn't get anything draft pics or exciting players Allen reminds me of getting Chris Paul. I think he's going to be a good fit and I'm going to love seeing how much everyone else hates this team.

I actually think Portland did really well here . Phoenix got hosed, but they must have figured they could not go into the season with the age of the players on this team and just hope that they could make a better move along the way DA is now officially my least favourite player in the NBA.

There is not a lot of value in the trade except adding more depth.

Ayton must have burned his bridges in Phoenix during the last two playoff seasons.

@cheesebeef has to be right here that the Suns are just completely done with Ayton and they took what they could get

I post here very rarely, but I read often, and to see the consternation with this trade after how many people bash Ayton is a bit puzzling to me. The Suns obviously believe that Ayton had to go.
