AZ Media needs to relax on the Tyrann coverage

I swear they are going to turn him into the next Tebow in terms of saturation.

Its strange for a Cards player to get so much coverage, but its starting to feel like too much in my opinion.

Today Kevin Minter was on 910 and they spent half the interview asking Kevin to talk about Tyrann. In fact, every Minter interview Ive heard at any level, they eventually ask him about Tyrann. That kid has incredible patience and is a pro, so he takes the questions in stride. But its BS that he keeps getting (honey) badgered to talk about Tyrann all day. BA gets asked specifically about Tyrann at virtually every press meeting. That doesnt happen with any other guy. Very Tebowish on the Jets type of media questions.

My concern is they will alienate him from the rest of the team. Yes the kids doing great, but theres 80 something other players on the team right now too. Other guys had great games vs the Packers too.

I am also slightly concerned this will also give him a big head and be an avenue for eventual relapse. Im serious. Go to any NFL site and youll see Tyrann front and center when they discuss the Cardinals. Its understandable, but they need to lighten up.

Media folks like to go with who's hot. Right now he is the story. It will not go away soon. Media people talking cards on local media are by in large the worst with interviews of players. Stupid questions are the main questions. That goes for 620,910 and 1060!

Why should they lighten up? The Honey Badger is one of the few things that is giving the Cardinals any sort of notoriety in the minds of the national media. His story is arguably one of the most compelling and captivating of any rookie this season, and if he succeeds at maintaining sobriety from pot, this could go as a huge success story and a major boon for the Cardinals.

As it stands, the Cards are taking a back seat to every other team in the division. Without him, we get lost in any sort of meaningful discussion. Even the Palmer trade doesn't measure this high on the Richter scale.

The traditional mindset of the old regime was to stay away from "malcontents" and play it safe. Now, BASK has taken a risk in drafting him in the 3rd round, which could prove to pay massive dividends provided he plays to his hyped up potential.

I say, "bring it on." Give me more Honey Badger!

I understand where you're coming from. It can be frustrating. I for one love the attention the Cards are getting. It's not very often you can pull up ESPN or NFL network and have constant coverage of the Cards. I'll take it for now and will enjoy the ride. I'm cautiously optimistic Matheiu and if he can stay clean, the Cards have an absolute stud secondary.

I say lay it on him. SHOWER him with attention and media and praise. Let's find out right now if he can handle the fame, money and fanfare.

I think the kid is going to be a stud. I think in 5 years the main thing people talk about when they mention the 2013 NFL draft is that we got the STEAL of the draft. But that being said, the only question mark left is if he can stay on the straight and narrow, so theres no need to handle him with kid gloves, just let whatever happens happens and hopefully he's got his head together.

You cant put people in a bubble and hope that protects them from pressure or temptation. It is what it is as Kobe would say.

As I understand it, a key substance-abuse problem is that (a) when you feel lousy, you need to medicate (so you fall off the wagon) and (b) when you feel on top of the world, you want to party (so you fall off the wagon).

Tyrann remains on the edge of that razor, and too much media -hype (or conversely, media-criticism should he commit a miscue on the field) is, in my opinion, "dangerous."

Thank goodness is seems to have a solid support system around him and is many miles removed from the Big Sleazy, but will it be enough?

(But, man oh man, is he talented. Let his accomplishments speak for themselves - right now the last thing he needs is an entourage of fawning media people).

I'll chime in on the OP also in opposition. I'm naturally with Shane in thinking that Mathieu needs to prove it in games that count to justify all the praise, but I don't think that it's bad that he's getting press.

The Cardinals are an entertainment company, and Tyrann is the most entertaining player on the team after Peterson and Fitz.

I agree that it's a shame that Kevin Minter has to be asked about Mathieu every interview. If Minter is as good as many here think, that's going to change. But I don't think that players particularly mind getting asked questions about the stars on the team--as long as the stars are making real plays. It's not a Tebow situation where a guy is struggling and still takes up all the media oxygen. According to reports, Tyrann has deserved every drop of ink spilled discussing him.

I can't get enough of the TM coverage personally. It's similar to the coverage that Archie Goodwin is getting for the Suns (not as much coverage as TM, but still). Just can't get enough coverage of these guys, but I also can't wait to see them get out there and actually do something that counts.
