Is it me or has he looked absolutely pedestrian this year? Antonio Smith looks like a Pro Bowler compared to him. He's awful against the run and he's really not getting any pressure on the qb. I hope Quentin Moses can step up and get in the game for pass rushing situations. Who knows, he might play the run better also.

he may not make an impact every single game but when it counts the most....you'll see Berry making a big play.

The B-Train takes a few games to warm up. He has proven that time and time again.

Brandon Gorin is probably hearing train whistles in his sleep

Of course Berry is not as good as he used to be. He's been in the NFL longer than Scott Player!

Berry has the least amount of tackles out of all of the starters on D. But he is 3rd on the team in QB pressures(Sacks+QB Pressures+QB Hits). His sacks always seem to come in bunches as well, so I think he is due a 2-3 sack game soon.

Dockett - 9
Pace - 9
Berry - 8
Smith - 6.5
Dansby 5.5

He did lose weight this offseason by something like 10 pounds so I am not sure why he is so gased at the end of games. He was also so gased at the end of the 49ers game the coaches didnt even put him in on the last game winning drive.

I still like him as a pass rush specialist but we need a full timer to take his place. Hopefully the raw Moses can be that kid once he learns the 3-4 OLB position, hopefully Okeafer can fully recover, hopefully the draft continues to look like an excellent 3-4 OLB draft like it does right now. I think the Cards will ask Berry to take a pay cut just like they asked Ross to. Take a 1 Mill pay cut, and you can earn that back if you reach a certian goal, or something like that.

Don't get stat happy.

Read Urban's piece on the relationship between Watson and Dockett. What it doesn't say directly but implies is that one unsung player can make others around him play better (and rack up sexier stats).

Bertrand is playing "up" in a new scheme. His responsibilities are different from before(although he still is called on to rush the passer under the right circumstances). But he's now also called on to drop off in coverage and hold outside contain more often.

His numbers might not look gaudy, but when you watch tape of the havoc our defense is causing behind the LOS, you'll find #92 in the thick of things most of the time.

Our front seven is finally beginning to generate some consistent production. Don't change a thing.

Agreed - stated a different way by an old post:

Hardy Brown said:
There are many things a player does on the field that don't show up in the game summary. These hidden responsibilities within a defense, like holding the point-of-attack, playing his technique (gap) correctly or pushing the corner to name a few, determine if a player is doing his job.

What ever happened to Hardy? I know that he stopped posting, but is anyone still in contact with him, or did he just fade away?

I don't focus on stats. I've watched him the last couple games and he's getting stonewalled in the pass rush and blown out of the play on running plays. He is a serious liability in the run game. Calvin Pace has made several tackles and been in pursuit on running plays, where I see B-Train getting pushed to the sidelines on running plays.

He's not playing a position that occupies blocker. He might drop into coverage at times, but that doesn't excuse the plays where he's getting crushed by o-line. He looks like he's lost a step.

IMO, you're overstating how badly he's played a bit. He's not pulling a Simeon out there. But, clearly, he's not playing like he was three years ago either. The line is playing well as a unit, so I think he is adequate. Otherwise, you can count on NFL teams ruthlessly exposing a weak link and that really hasn't happened.

If Quentin Moses was showing much in practice, he'd be active already. I agree with Harry on that.

I didnt think Berry would be good in this system. He has done better than I expected, but the guy who we need is Chike. I think Berry will either take a paycut or be released next year.

He was pretty good for us in his day.

I hope he stays with the team, even as a back up. To quote Graves, he is/was one of our 'core' players.

Berry's value comes in his expeience and leadership. He has a role on this team and we are a better defense with him than without him.
