From @azbobbymac (in reverse order):

Arians: "I like our skill players, but we’re always looking for speed. I like big, physical guys, a speed pass rusher. Speed's the thing."

Arians said Cardinals would be best served addressing the offensive and defensive line in the draft. Notes free agency could change plans.

Arians: "You have to play; it’s the only way you learn. He’s got to get the reps in practice, be under center and throwing all the time."

Arians:" I don’t think we can afford to have a guy come in like that. I’m not a believer in a guy learning anything sitting on the bench."

Arians: "We've got two pretty good ones that are younger (Drew Stanton, Ryan Lindley). For us right now it’s about winning a championship."

Arians on what he would tell people who want to see the Cardinals draft a QB with the 20th overall pick: "Why?" He says they don't need one.

Had an interesting chat with Cardinals coach Bruce Arians today, specifically while talking about the NFL Draft in May. Quotes to follow.

Cardinals think they can be contenders next year with this team no way they take a QB in the first not this year they want someone to come in and contribute right away.

Arians seems to be a pretty straight shooter and not a lot of BS. I don't think it's a smokescreen. I'd be surprised if they took a QB at 20. I think at 20 it's Ebron or DL. I'm not sure if there is a speed rusher that will be available and worth the 20th pick.

Maybe Shazier is in play for the Cards at 20. I wouldn't take him and think he's a bad fit but he can run and make plays.

If Johnny Manziel falls to #20, the Cardinals take a QB. In other words, no first round quarterback. I agree! Win now!!!!

This. You also have to look at DB at 20, imo.

I think it's wise to keep in mind who we are competing with and the need to maintain physicality as well. I believe it's a primary objective along with speed. You need players that can push it to the max/extreme, not those who have relied on superior talent alone to get by. This is key early in the draft. I want talented high motor guys.

Some I can think of early would be Van Noy and Martin. I'm sure that there are some more. Kadeem Carey is a name not many have discussed here.

Hagerman, Lewan and Kouandjio are players with natural raw gifts that have been able to overwhelm opponents at times, but who lack the continued drive to make them a true difference maker. Jmho.

A: Well, we’ve got two pretty good ones that are younger (Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley). But for us right now it’s about winning a championship. I don’t think we can afford to have a guy come in like that. I’m not a believer in a guy learning anything sitting on the bench. You have to play; it’s the only way you learn. He’s got to get the reps in practice, he’s got to be under center and throwing all the time or he’s not going to get any better.

I'm starting to learn how to read between the lines with this guy. He gets alot of credit for being honest and transparent. And I totally agree with that. Love BA. But if you're a coach or GM in the NFL, you can't be honest 100% of the time. So BA has his way of deflecting those questions. He makes up a good story or says something kind of screwy that gives you something to chew on. That whole part about a QB not learning on the bench, total BS. Or BAS, I should say. You can file that under the 'Levi Brown is elite' column and move on.

Actually, if you think about it, which you shouldn't, but if you do, then it really doesn't make sense. Because if you can't learn sitting on the bench, then our "pretty good" QBs in Stanton and Lindley haven't learned a thing. So how could they be pretty good if they haven't learned a thing, sitting on the bench? So I think the official answer, after reading between the lines, is "I don't want to talk about QBs right now." Obviously.

One of BA's best traits (IMHO) is the way he speaks his mind , no smokescreen . I would be shocked if we took a QB 1'st or even 2'nd rnd. Even if we got lucky in FA and got a LT I think we would be looking at D-Line --- TE ----- DB ----- OL .

Jurecki was talking about these comments last night on his show

he noted that Arians did an interview on a Nat'l radio show and pretty much said the same thing.

Jurecki, based on this and "what he is hearing around the building", believes that there are only two O-line spots settled for next year: Cooper and Sendlein. He wouldnt be surprised if 3 new starters took the field.

Further: the focus is on o line and d line. They want to be more physical up front

Reading between the lines, I hear, there are many positions we would like to address long term with young prospects of which QB is fairly far down the list. Does'nt mean we won't (address it) if someone we can't pass on is staring us in the face later in the draft.

I think he's seen something he likes in Lindley and knows what he likes about Stanton.

Agree that the focus will be upgrading O-line and adding D-line depth.

O-line
D-line
safety
cornerback
fast receiver with return skills

What I saw last year and did not see in the past was we went into free agency and got some producers. I hope Rod Graves took notice.

I seriously believe what you say about Lindley. I have never seen a QB look as bad as when he had that horrid stint as a starter but that OL was about as bad as it gets and the kid was also thrown in way too soon to adjust to the speed of the professional game. I'm not saying Lindley is our QB of the future but he might be a solid career backup

I do believe BA is a not BS guy but this whole thing is pretty fluid. IMO there isnt a QB they love, and especially not at 20 so what he says does make a ton of sense. Kiems comments on gusy who can move outside the pocket was surpsiing to me, and I think with BA's philospohy of play em right away that they are targeting 2015 when Winston, Mariota, Hundley, and Hogan will all be coming out. In that vain I would not be shocked to see them trade out fo 1st round for future 1st rounder.

If we address LT in Free Agency this is first time I can remember where Cards are not drafting because of gaping hole but to augment and build depth. I LOVE the building of the lines plan and makes ton of sense in NFC West. A LT in FA, Cooper and Winston coming back, and 2nd round Center/Guard would make this line one to contend with IMO.

Im not sure about DL though. Im a big Dumpster Dan guy and Campbell has one edge locked up. Maybe another DE and cut Dockett? I dunno that makes sense. To me before FA this is priority list

The first round seems to becoming much easier to predict and should become even more so after FA. TE, DE, CB and S seem to be the spots that will be most likely addressed in round 1 with how the draft is set up and the Cardinals looking to take the BPA.

After round 1, you could probably add WR and OLB to that list, maybe OT if they lack confidence in Potter, Massie and Sowell (which would be understandable).

We need to possibly look at finding Darnell's replacement a season from next year. He'll be pushing 33 then.

In the mean time you could work someone in during the year, give him experience and keep Darnell fresh.

One name to keep in mind if he's around is Florida States Timmy Jernigan - DD90's alma mater. Seems like he would be a pretty good fit here, considering. ;) He's a consideration trading back and taking in the beginning of the 2nd or late 1st rd's.

Others would be RaShede Hageman - Minnesota, Aaron Donald - Pittsburgh, and Stephon Tuitt - Notre Dame.

Two of the above may be available when we pick at 20 and would really give the DL a great fixture for the future.

Brent Urban - Virginia could be had in the 2nd Rd., mtl, but is rising.

RaShede Hageman is undoubtedly my first choice at #20. After the combine, he'll likley have worked his way into a top 15 pick though.

It's easy to see why this guy succeeds. The team won 10 games and has obvious needs. You fix those first. Getting a QB to sit on the bench is not a need. When they do take one he will play in year one. There's no one in this draft that fits that description who will still be on the board at 20.

After hearing B.A. on MJ's show yesterday, I think he really likes Carson Palmer beyond 2014. Unless there is someone available that they really like, all signs point to no quarterback in round one and probably round two.

Sounds like they are looking to put a solid offensive line in place. And that is an excellent strategy IMO. Until that is in place, B.A. can't play long ball as much as he'd like. Other than Lyle Sendlein, he wasn't really singing the praises of the offensive line. He wasn't critical either, but sometimes silence tells you something.

Both lines will be the priority. So will the secondary. TE is the other issue. Troy Niklas TE - ND. This guy is almost like an OT playing the TE position. They'll have a decision to make if he's around in the 2nd, imo. But I see they interviewed the Ga. TE, Lynch, and he can be had one or two rounds later, mtl. Same with Fedorowictz (sp)., out of Iowa.

I think they'll look for a speed receiver/returner somewhere in rounds 3-5 as well. Other than that I agree with your priorities.

The TE from Iowa is opening eyes big time. 6'7" 270 & has the best hands in the draft, including the WR's. Don't be surprised if the Patriots grab this guy & he's an instant game changer.
